Re: Steering Rack Gaitor
Hi myoldjalopy. Glad you found my "Definitive Guide" of some help. I'm also pleased to get your feedback, particularly on the rust-welded nut - I must say I had assumed that everyone's nuts would be rust welded, but clearly not. I have changed three gaiters on two different cars and the nu...

Tack Cloth
Need a bit of advice on using a tack cloth please. I'm doing a bit of rust repair and have preped the metal work. I've bought some tack cloths but when I wiped them over the metal my hands felt a bit greasy afterwards. Then I read that they are impregnated with bees wax. Surely putting wax on a surf...

Re: waterproofing Convertible Hood Seams
Well the good news is that I didn't use anything except the Renovo and we've had some serious downpourings and the hood doesn't seem to have leaked. Hope it stays that way.

Re: Paint Suppliers near Bromley
Sorry for the delay before update/response. So I went to the Bexleyheath branch of BSB. It's quite a small shop with limited parking outside. (I had to go twice and found that early afternoon was better as they were less busy). If you are taking a part to match then make sure it is around 3 inches o...

Bromley Pageant 2017 - Cheaper Tickets
They say that Bromley Pageant is the biggest one day car show in Europe. This year it's on 18th June. However tickets are a bit of a rip - £10 PLUS an extra £2 booking fee. Cheeky! However members of a club can get in for half that price. I looked for the Morris Minor Owners Club and it seems it's n...

Re: Taking Convertible Hood Down
Thanks for the response and the photos Declan. I'll give that a try (when the weather gets a bit better. At the moment the last thing I need is the hood down).
Cheers,
Dave

Taking Convertible Hood Down
Recently got a 1968 convertible and am playing with the hood. I can get it up and down fine now (after a bit of a wiggle, a few thumps and an interesting word or two. Just got to figure out how to stop it scratching the heck out of the painted rear window frames while I'm doing this). Anyway when I'...

Re: Paint Suppliers near Bromley
Many thanks for your suggestions guys. I did experiment and found I could release the front quarter-light without too much fuss, just a couple of screws. That seems to be the same colour as the rest of the car, so I'm planning to take that in and see what they can do. I'll post the results when I ge...

Re: Paint Suppliers near Bromley
Many thanks for the replies guys. I've found the paint place in Bexleyheath (BSB Group) on the web - not too far away. I've given them a ring this morning and they say they can do a match. They do need something off the car to match it to as it might take them a little while and I might need to leav...

Recently got a "new" Mog - (registered 1st Jan 1968 so manufactured 1967). I thought it was Old English White as its a very similar colour to my other one. However when I sprayed ESMs OEW on it, it was obvious that my car was slightly creamier than ESM's paint. Now I thought OEW was the cr...

Re: Castrol EP90
Thanks Les. I have taken your advice and it is now in the diff, so unfortunately no EP 90 coming your way.

waterproofing Convertible Hood Seams
Just got a "new" convertible. The vinyl hood is generally in OK nick, however I guess where it has shrunk over the years the stitched seams have stretched a little so daylight can be seen along the seams, although the stitching does seem to be intact. I'm a bit worried that this might let ...

Castrol EP90
I'm aware of the arguments regarding EP4 vs EP5 oil in the Moggie diff. I need to replace the oil in my new Moggie's diff and have an old gallon can of Castrol Hypoy EP90 in my garage. Unfortunately it doesn't mention either Ep4 or EP5 on it - in fact about the only thing it says on the can is the t...

Changing Steering Gaiters - The Definitive Guide
I asked on this forum whether I needed to remove the track rod ends with a ball joint splitter in order to change the steering gaiters, I never really got an answer, but got some good advice on how to remove the track rod ends. Well today I did it, so I can give the definitive answer. NO. It is tota...

Re: Changin Steering Gaiters
Many thanks for the info guys. I am about to embark on the job, so wish me luck. Bound to be more difficult than I imagine. Often the most difficult job is getting the car up high enough to get underneath properly.
Cheers.

Changin Steering Gaiters
Both steering gaiters are split so I have new ones to put on. It occurred to a pal of mine that the steering rods must twist or else you wouldn't be able to adjust the tracking. Would it therefore be easier to just unscrew the steering rod completely from the track ends to slip the gaiters on, rathe...

valve rubber ring dilema
I have just done a de-coke and am confused about the small rubber rings in the gasket set. In some books these are referred to as oil seals or in others as packing rings. Some diagrams seem to leave them out altogether. Some texts says they should be sitting at the bottom of the cotter groove, other...

Re: water pump bypass pipe
However, returning from the compelling and enjoyable subject of sudden death, to the somewhat more pedestrian topic of sealing the bypass pipe, I am not really a great fan of PTFE tape. Even when I have used it on domestic water pipes I often have to re-do it several times before the drip finally ge...
