Wedding Car Hire in London
Hi there, It's been a long time since I hallowed this messageboard, having sold my Moggie back in 2011, but my partner and I are due to be married in April, and we're on the hunt to find a Moggie to chauffeur us to our venue. We spent many a long summers day together, working away on my lovely ole' ...

Re: Jumping/stalling
I think it's the HT lead between the coil and the distributor causing the problem, when fitting the new coil - after having first attempted to connect it - the car started the same is it currently does then died. After some fiddling, poking, prodding and manipulation of the connectors with a pair of...

Re: Jumping/stalling
I retract that comment. Driving to town this morning and bam, completely cut out. Just got back from two hours in the freezing cold. :( A bad connection would sound about right - now he struggles starting, and when he does it's deathly lumpy then cuts out. When we replaced the coil the lead really d...

Re: Jumping/stalling
Hey guys, just thought I'd conclude the saga - seems it's not always 'never' the coil - fitted the new on Saturday and he's running like a beaut!
Thanks for the guidance on this one.

Re: Jumping/stalling
Just taken him out aaaaand.. He's now dead. Turning over, but not starting. Coil would make sense - I'll order one.

Jumping/stalling
Hey guys, Bit of an issue here! A few weeks ago I felt a slight jolt whilst driving the moggie and it's getting progressively worse. :( Whilst accelerating the engine seems to be cutting out, making the car rock and jolt, and occasionally when static it stalls. The odd thing is that it's intermitten...

Re: Bit of a cough!
The clever ole' chap's prognosis is that it's something wrong with the big end. Worn/rattling bearings? Can't see how lack of water in the rad could have caused this, unless it was just a coincidence and it's just general wear and tear..? I dunno. He should be checking it over properly tomorro...

Re: Bit of a cough!
Have contacted the mechanic, hoping to get him in sometime next weekend, and have yet to be able to do a compression test as the boyfriend took the plug socket.
Here's hoping that it's the head gasket and not the pistons.. I'm not sure I have the cash to spare to get those sorted.

Collector of classic Penguin books and to usually be found donning an outfit smothered in ink.. Designer, illustrator, caricaturist, and general Womble. Re: Bit of a cough!
We can't get a good look at the "Business End" but the top two look like they may have been hot. Sorry this didn't bring a good result, :( it's time now to begin to take things apart. BTW - did your wife know you used her cutting board for a backdrop? If I took car parts into my wife's se...

Re: Bit of a cough!
Thanks for the support with this guys - it's all a big learning curve! Unfortunately I've got deadlines looming and haven't had much time to get out and have a look at the car properly, however, did change the spark plugs, all to no avail - still having a lot of trouble firing up and is still runnin...

Re: Bit of a cough!
The new spark plugs arrived this morning (the joys of ESM!) I'll give your suggestions a go, simmitc - I've bagged the help of someone that knows what they're doing now, so I'll use their thumbs to stick in the cylinders.. I changed both the HT leads and distributor cap when all the mechanical...

Re: Bit of a cough!
Exactly, when the other two are removed there's no change. I've ordered 4 new plugs just in case, if that doesn't help then I suppose I'll be looking at the head gasket - have a new one sat in the boot anyway! Will have a look into a new rad, can't afford to have the car off the road to have the cur...

Re: Bit of a cough!
When removing either of the two back caps whilst running, the engine cuts out completely.

Re: Bit of a cough!
Rad has a slow leak, noticed it when we took it out to clean up the engine bay. A previous owner has had a go with radweld, but I think it'll be needing another dose. Will eventually get round to buying a new rad though. No bubbles in the water either - in fact, no movement of water whatsoever. The ...

Bit of a cough!
Hey guys, requiring a bit of wisdom! Yesterday I chugged out in Jeremy all fine and dandy, until he started making a rather loud clicking noise whilst accelerating accompanied by my legs being very well warmed.. (An uncommon occurrence!) I took him back home, popped the bonnet and had a look, the ra...

Wiper issue!
Hey guys would like your thoughts on what might be going on with my wipers! Jeremy passed his MOT two weeks back and I've been merrily driving him about in this glorious weather we've been having. However, I realised the day after the MOT pass that his wipers are on the blink. Took him for a half ho...
Re: MOT
Don't mean to hijack the original post, but I'm also looking for a worthy MOT tester in Essex, if anyone knows! Situated in Canvey Island, south Essex. Would rather not have to travel too far!
Thanks guys.
