Re: Seatbelt mounting bolt
Ideally it should extend several inches either side of the bolt to spread the load. I would say not 'ideally' but 'essentially'. I too have wrestled with the 2-door front seatbelt problem. With them mounted as per the factory arrangement the sash does not sit correctly on the shoulder so that in a ...

Re: Speedometer
Hello Andy I will have a go at answering. My impression is that there is a very large number of part numbers for speedos and it is often difficult to see why they differ. I think that in some cases there is no practical difference. As you will be aware, the main issue is ensuring that the TPM figure...

Re: Metal trim help
Well, it looks like I misled you.  Sorry. It looked like aluminium to me. I have both ally and chrome on brass grille surrounds so I know what they look like. We don't have salted road here in Oz though which no doubt promotes a type of corrosion of the chrome that we don't see here. So...

Re: Metal trim help
That looks like a 1000 grille surround. For a short period this part was chrome plated but--like nearly all of them--on yours is aluminium. It looks like it has substantial erosion of the surface (either mechanical erosion or corrosion). This is obvious when the section that is normally behind the j...

Re: How many of you can weld, and how did you learn?
YouTube videos vary considerably in their usefulness to the DYI Minor restorer. I have watched probably hundreds over the last 5 years or so. The ones that I think would be a great resource for the Minor restorer are those by Fitzee's Restorations. Fitzee takes a very different approach to most rest...

You might consider installing Declan Burns' design for the stationary timing marks above the damper.

Re: Speedometer Compatibility
So will a later sender unit work with the black speedo? Do I need a voltage stabiliser? If the black speedo has--or originally had--a stabiliser on it and it has its original fuel gauge, then you will need the later type sender. You will also need to have the stabiliser functioning. An alternative ...

Perhaps the differences are the configuration of the warning lights.

The Minor Magic kit is based on the Aussie Ford Laser / Mazda 323 master cylinder. So spares are very widely available--here in Oz Kits of this design have been used in Oz for decades.

Sorry if this is a silly suggestion, but...where do I even get a repair section!?
Have you asked the seller whether he still has the cut out section lying around?

Re: Rear Disc Brake Conversion
The dual circuit kit that PTH refers to above is based on a Mazda 323 master cylinder. So by putting a kit together yourself, it can be done economically.

Re: Valve compressor
I bought one of the Chinese ones that looks very similar to the Sykes Pickavant ones shown above (the latter are rarely seen here in Australia). However, I found that it was too big. It was at its limit of adjustment to compress the spring, even with a small chock against the valve face. Also it was...

Note that there have been several posts about leaks from the fuel gauge sender after re-installation. It might be worth your while searching to see how they were resolved.

Somewhere on here you can find a solution to this using a micro-switch at the base of the gear lever. The post was by the ever-ingenious Declan Burns.

Re: Which speedo
I can't say whether your speedo has the correct turns per mile for your car. But I would point out that these speedos can gradually drift toward under-reading over the years. The reason is that they depend on a spinning magnet creating drag on a disk connected to the the needle. Over the years, magn...
