Battery for 1275
My battery has reached the end of its life :( Its the 038 that was in when I still had a 1098 engine in the car and it always did struggle a little in the cold weather. I was thinking of putting a 063 battery in (41AH 360 Starting power) but have also seen a 063 with 52AH and 530 Starting power. Is ...

Re: A-series engine builder in Yorkshire
From the jiggle pin in the gearbox bell housing. Im not far from Tom Roys actually, been there for a few parts in the past. Just looking for options really as I live in Newcastle and work most of the time but the car is at my parents house. Got a few days off so going home. Probably gona take the en...

Re: A-series engine builder in Yorkshire
It had a rebore, regrind and pretty much everything else is new! I tried the removing the cap and couldn't see any smoke. I thought it could be that the half moon had been moved by the previous owner of the engine and is now incorrectly set. The oil pressure seems to be fine and compression tests fo...

Re: A-series engine builder in Yorkshire
Well, I rebuilt the engine last year and have had issues with it leaking since. I have tried everything I can with the breathing etc with some improvement but its not great. I don't know if I have done something wrong or if the scroll isn't set up right.

A-series engine builder in Yorkshire
Hi I'm still having issues with an oil leak from the rear end of my 1275 midget engine. I don't have much time at the moment and am living a fair distance from my parents house where the car is currently parked up. I'm wondering if anyone can suggest somebody in the york/scarborough/thirsk area who ...

Re: Breathing on 1275 engine
Took all the plugs out, screwed the gauge in and turned the engine over a couple of times to get a reading.

Re: Breathing on 1275 engine
Right, borrowed a gauge from our local garage, got reading of 210psi on all 4 cylinders. Is that a bit high? As they are all the same is it unlikely that damage to a piston ring is causing increased pressure in the crankcase?

Re: Breathing on 1275 engine
Right, I've finally finished my degree and got a bit of time to try and get this oil leak from the rear of the crank sorted. I'm thinking it is probably increased pressure in the lower part of the engine. Would doing a compression test help confirm this and the offending piston? Thanks.

Could I also just check that the 1257 midget dipstick is the same as the 1098? Thanks

Re: Breathing on 1275 engine
I have also been advised to check that the valve stem seals were actually put on, so going to have a look at the head today. Also had suggestions of the cam bearings, and piston rings, any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Breathing on 1275 engine
The head was fully reconditioned by our local machining shop, what problem with the valve guides causes it to smoke?

Re: Breathing on 1275 engine
Back home for the weekend and just picked the car up from the garage, glad to say it passed its MOT after they fiddled with the timing and carb a bit more. It is still leaking quite a lot of oil from the rear of the crankshaft but I still just have a rather leaky hose from the crank case to the carb...

Re: Breathing on 1275 engine
Got it running a bit better yesterday before having to head back to Uni, but it is really noisy! My dad is going to get a mechanic friend to have a look at it to check I havn't done something stupid!

Re: Breathing on 1275 engine
I will have a go with a breather on a rocker cover aswell, but first want to get it running right. What order should I alter everything (mixture, idle, timing etc). First time I have done this so a bit unsure. Does it make much difference that I have electronic ignition?

Re: Breathing on 1275 engine
A quick update. Finally got the engine running today (held up by Uni work). Still have the timing, mixture etc to sort out, but it runs. Started with a reasonable amount of oil leaking from the clutch housing, but this quickly reduced. The only breather is from the timing chain cover and linked to t...

Re: Minor / A40 engine front plate
I have just fitted a midget engine with a midget front plate, it all went in fine and connected up without any problems so i'm pretty sure the mounts are right.

I had read that too, but was unsure if it was just when the tax group would be changed.
