'65 LCV Flat-deck project

Hi all, I've had about 2 years off working on my project, a 1965 Morris 1000 LCV in flat-deck flavour. I've had this project for about 4 years and now want to get it finished so I can enjoy driving it. Im running a thread over on http://www.morrisdownunder.com and wont be running parallel threads he...

Re: bigger engine.... recommended??

The Datsun 1200 engine makes a great easy conversion. Ive done two of these conversions so far, one was a standard 1200cc engine and the other was a 1500cc which I warmed up and fuel injected. Basically you need to get a datsun a12 engine which is complete, and the gearbox (4speed, model 56a is the ...

Re: Engine Suggestions

have you got access to toyota 4age engines? They are a reasonable fit and something like 140hp in standard tune plus there are heaps of aftermarket performance parts for them. If I do another morry minor it will have a 4age in it. The bellhousings for the t50 gearbox are getting a little thin on the...

Re: Engine Suggestions

Do what I would do an put a datsun a12 in it! Japanese reliability, bulletproof engine that with uprated valve springs will rev right out to 9000 rpm! Its recommended to enlarge oil galleries for the main bearings if you are going to do that often though. put a lumpy cam in it, a head off an a15 and...

Re: ROVER V8 FITTING GUIDE?

You get to a point in a minor where you need serious chassis re-engineering. The most basic of modifications require a lot of other work ie, brake upgrade, diff upgrade and shock absorber upgrade to make your conversion worthwhile. Doing the engine is only half the cost! I recommend getting somethin...

Re: Rebuilt datsun a15e engine for my morry

Injectors are noisy things but so are tappets, on modern cars they usually have hydraulic lifters which are silent, yes you can hear injectors on modern cars but every injector is different. It could also be your speakers, on the laptop here the car sounds crap but on a proper stereo you can hear th...

Re: Rebuilt datsun a15e engine for my morry

heres an update. Ive kind of been neglecting this board and keeping to the datsun board because the members there are more interested in the engine mods than they morry guys are on here, possibly because the datsun engine isnt common in the UK like it is here but never mind. its running and its driv...

Re: Thinking about quitting morris minors

I went through a stage where i was thinking of giving up the morries, then i just couldnt bring myself to do it! I would miss the tinkering and satisfaction i get from making progress on the projects. It is quite common to lose motivation on long projects but sometimes you just need a break and come...

Re: Rebuilt datsun a15e engine for my morry

a bit of progress, ive booted the computer in the car and all seems to be well. The throttle position sensor needed calibrated and sensors seem to read about 10° high but that could just be because the cars been sitting in the hot 27° invercargill heat today. i dunno if the laptop looks like it belo...

Re: Rebuilt datsun a15e engine for my morry

hey guys, just an update. Ive got the engine in and arent too far from finishing all the things that go with it like re-engineering half the damn setup! All those things that all take time and you just have to tackle one at a time. The wiring wasnt as time consuming as i thought it would be so that ...

older peugeots had their dampers are ridiculous angles, almost horizontal but their rear suspension worked great and i presume that it was because the damping effect of the dampers was appropriate for the amount of travel that they moved in normal operation. what is the obsession with the dampers be...

Personally, i would get the underbody sandblasted, mainly around the seams but nowhere that it would cause issues. Then i would use POR15 rust preventative paint straight onto the bare metal, when dry sand the shine off it and paint again, and repeat once more. Spraying the POR15 will get the paint ...

as long as i put reasonably long pins on the bottom mounts then it looks like it will be fine. with the long pins it will bring the shock absorber position backwards to a point where i can easily fit the steel across the car. My shock absorbers definetely will need to be angled due to the ride heigh...

ok, im just thinking of that esm kit, if it goes between chassis rails then surely its going to be pretty tough, when i build by kit (which has a similar design in my head) then ill weld the crossmember to the chassis rail at each end and possibly to the floor at various points across it. While its ...

saloon rear telescopic dampers suggestions please

Hi, Im at the stage where i need to think seriously how i will put the rear shocks on my saloon. Im making custom base plates so the pin can come out forwards, backwards or to the centre of the car to suit what works best with the shocks. Anyone have suggestions or pictures on how i should mount the...

Ive only got the MS-1 at this stage but its an easy upgrade. I think the engine will be floating around ...

Rebuilt datsun a15e engine for my morry

Over the last few weeks ive been gathering parts and getting machining done for my engine rebuild. This isnt just an ordinary rebuild, well it is in most areas with just a rebore, deck reface, new main and b/e bearings, new pistons oversize, new cam bearings. Ive had the cam ground to a rather aggre...

Here in NZ ive heard a few stories of bedford pistons being used in the a-series blocks. I dont know what the bedford pistons are out of though as all the piston diameters in a catalogue here are much larger than the 1098cc's bore.
