Re: Rover metro bits useable?
I'd wondered about that engine in a Morris, though I still favour the Isuzu 1.5 that Corsas use having had two Corsas with them - I seem to remember that the 1.4 Peugeot was capable of about 60 to the gallon in the Metro, which can't be bad!

Re: more heaters.....
That's excellent news Timmo - I haven't got to it yet as work on the house has intervened - but if it's a hopeless case I shall be in touch! Who knows, I might have something you need in return!

Re: more heaters.....
Thanks both, I thought that was the answer I would get! I take it the dismantling is fairly straightforward? Is there an exploded drawing in existance? And I could just get an impression of the rheostat through the holes - it looks like it's a 'bend back the tabs and work on the internal parts' unit...

more heaters.....
Right - round heater as fitted to our '62 traveller seems to have given up the ghost. I suspect the rheostat switch as it used to work if you fiddled with it. Is there any way to get at the switch without removing the heater completely? Doesn't seem to get a mention in any of my manuals, looks like ...

I think you'd find these rare earth magnets would hold to the side of a jet plane in flight (if it was steel) some of them just about need a screwdriver to prise them off......

Re: Numbers well down ?
I like the new functionality that the change has brung: not having to log in every time is a real boon! The only real change I'd make is choosing a different theme, there are some much better icon/balloons out there!

Or just the time of year - the Nova board always goes quiet for a bit round Christmas/early January.

Re: Stainless braided hose
They also have a tendancy to colapse if twisted, which you really wouldn't want! Overbraid looks pretty so long as you can tidy up the ends (I've got a length of rad-hose sized stuff hung up in the garage waiting for something!) but it does hide possible early warning of failures.

Ebay electronic ignition

Sometimes you would get both (though motor factors - in the days when they sold useful things - used to keep copper then plastic pipes in various lengths so you bought to suit your car) but the water temp pipe is integral with the gauge (and filled with a liquid) you often see the gauges at car-boot...

If you've got the sort of head with a blanking plug below the thermostat (above the dynamo) you're in luck because it will just screw in there. Without that, you've got no quick and easy soloution. Our 1098 van has the tapping and has the gauge fitted, the other two (948s) don't and are awaiting me ...

We paid a lot less than that for one in very good condition - the gearbox was a bit noisy and the gear stick very much so (as it was missing its support spring.... ) but the owner threw in a good condition gearbox as part of the deal. For £5k I wouldn't want to be having to play around with an...

My Lancia's front suspension towers both decided that they wanted to be (a lot) closer to each other as I backed it out of the drive one morning - having completely seperated from the inner wings...... that was the end of that! Nice engine though (basically Fiat twin cam with pretty 'Lancia' letteri...
