Hi Judge, the crushable sunvisors were introduced as standard in '64 so maybe yours is just pre this change. The viewer was trying to suggest that the car wasn't an original convertible. Now I'm not sure either way and this has been discussed on here by me and others at length, I was as honest as I ...

Thanks a lot guys, I think this guy knows a bit about Minors but as they say 'a little knowlegde can be a dangerous thing'. I looked at the Bull Motif production changes list and from 1964 onwards they had crushable visors as standard.

Thanks bmcecosse, is it a big job to put right? By the way, my clutch seems absolutly fine. I would have thought that it may have been effected by the oil, is that not the case?

Ok, looks like I've established that the leaking oil is deffinatly from the gearbox and not the engine as the gearbox needed quite a lot of oil in it to bring up to the filler hole. So it looks as though I didn't have an issue with pressure in the engine after all so I've put my breather arrangement...

On re reading one of the comments on that thread I thought I would just ask this. If the oil level in the engine does not drop but oil is leaking from the gearbox, how would I check for this " Check your geabox oil level to make sure there is no exessive wear on the front oil throw." Not e...

Last round of trying to sort out the possibility of excessive pressure and correct breathing set up can be found here (as well as photos of my engine set up). OMG I hope I've not just opened the same can of worms! http://mmoc.org.uk/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=20839&postdays...

Hi Grandad, Yes I know that Graham thinks it is coming from the rear crank seal but the engine is not losing any oil even over the 700 miles I've done in the car. The gearbox is getting noisier. I'll investigate the oil level in the gearbox and go from there. I'll also check out the breather pipes a...

Hi Grandad,
No the gearbox is midget I believe, the same as the engine.
I'll check the oil level in the box and the clean off the underside and take it for a spin.

Leaking from gearbox?

I bought a Minor convertible last year. It's a fantastic car but unfortunatly it had a bad propshaft vibration and an oil leak when I bought it. I have had the prop sorted and now need to address the oil leak. I originally thought that the leak was coming from the engine but I've done 100's of miles...

Just been told that my diff is leaking oil past the pinion oil seal. How easy is this to change and what is the process?
Any special tools required?

Bootlid rubber

I need to put the correct rubber seal on my bootlid. In the past some one has fitted an earlier seal to the car rather than the bootlid and I don't think it is sealing very well and doesn't allow the boot to close flush with the rest of the body. My question is how do I secure the new rubber seal to...

carb set up

Car is running a little lumpy and has a sooty exhaust. So was wondering if there is a guide to set up the carb. i.e which screws to turn and how far.
Only had the car a couple of weeks and haven't got around to getting a service manual yet

Problem with oil??

Lots of you will know my ongoing issues with oil leaks and breather set ups but I was wondering if the car was filled with a thinner oil, like stanadrd modern engine oil instead of 20w50, will this contribute to the oil leaking past the rear crank? I ask because I know it went for an MOT befor I bou...

Brakes sticking on.........a bit

Yesterday was the first time I needed to take my car out in the rain :-? I noticed that the brakes were sticking on. It happened when I had slowed down (using the brakes) to about 5-10 mph then took foot off the brakes and it's as if your still pressing them. Then when I pulled away again they seeme...

OMG :o I'm really confused. So how would I conect the pipe from the rocker cover to the carb as there is already a pipe from the carb to the canister thingy on the front right hand side of the block. Should I join the pipe from the rocker cover into that pipe with a T piece? I know that one of the g...

Thanks for that advice Stig28. I'm going to change the oil (for 20w50, find a vented oil filler cap and adjust the carb. Then we'll see.

Does anybody know where I can get a vented cap. ESM just seem to have the same one I already have.
