Re: Suddenly ....no clutch and no ability to get in any gear

ok..have ordered the various parts including two hardened half shafts from Charles Ware so should receive in a week. Any thoughts as to how long this might take using two people (one experienced and one willing..?) Two hours, four hours?

I need to budget time and space (will be done in my garage!)

Re: Suddenly ....no clutch and no ability to get in any gear

Thanks for all this - I'm thinking of getting a set of hardened shafts from Charles Ware assuming I can't source here in the US. This may be a spring job as I'm here in just the fall and spring and I could bring the shafts back with me on a flight (brought a new petrol tank that way before....!) if ...

Re: Suddenly ....no clutch and no ability to get in any gear

Wow - that is a scary trophy! But impressed everything was sourced at an autojumble. Do any of the recommendations change if I mention that my car is a 1970 MM - a former Panda Car? Thought I had a new diff at some point - but clearly not the half-shafts. I guess a pair makes sense. I'll do a search...

Re: Suddenly ....no clutch and no ability to get in any gear

Well - you guys win! Yes the prop shaft turns but the car goes nowhere and there is a swishing noise. I seem to be stuck; in the USA and the car in my garage here so may have to try this myself. Any first step suggestions? What parts do I need and what should I also be replacing at the same time? Al...

Suddenly ....no clutch and no ability to get in any gear

I pulled out of a parking lot and when I went to shift it into the next gear (depressing the clutch) there was... no second gear. In fact, I could put the car into all gears and all the engine would do is rev without any traction. I drifted to the side of the road. I tried to reverse - same thing - ...

Re: Very hard starting my morris after storage

I will try to clean the points, and, eventually, top up with new fuel. I bought a kit in London for storage which included moisture absorbing plugs for the value chambers. Maybe just makes me feel better. The fuel stabilizer is POR.

Very hard starting my morris after storage

I have a Morris that has been laid up for the winter....I left a full tank with fuel preservative, and took out the plugs and sprayed some gear oil in and sealed the holes with a moisture absorbing set of plugs. I got it started again but only with a great deal of trouble. it runs VERY rough (chugs ...

Gear reduction starters for MM

Are these available for the Morris - anyone had experience with them on the car? Or is it overkill (and I am too lazy to crank it!)

As a follow-up, they are out of these "for the foreseeable future" as the manufacturer has ended his original run and is moving premises. I did, however, source one on ebay for a modest premium over the listed cost. Not original but a repro.

Sourcing the bonnet bull ornament (front, not top)

Mine is pitted and has little color - I've seen a couple on ebay, including one that claims to be from a 56 Morris. Will an early model ornament fit a late model (69-70) car? Does anyone sell any NOS, or quality repros?

Thanks, I haven't been on to the distributor yet, but that's next on the list. It's been out for a nice run, with a new tank of petrol, but the starting problem (when cold) still bugs me.

Engine starting problem after 6 mo layup - and it continues.

I started my car last weekend after a six month sleep. It took a while, but finally caught, chugged, and ran very rough until warm--then it ran like a top. I thought I was burning off some of the fuel preservative I had in for the winter. The following day -same thing - very difficult to start (tho ...

Good idea. As I can't run out to look at the engine (it's over the pond), I assume I have a HS2 1.25" type carb - is this standard for a late model 1098?

Where to source a chrome cover for my SU carb?

Does anyone know where I can get a chrome cover for the single SU carb in my 1098 Morris? Most of the ones I have seen online are too large. (Yes I know it's silly, but I'm putting on an aluminum valve cover too, so I can be silly twice)
