Re: Electronic Ignition
One problem with electronic ignition, you break down you wont fix it, with a coil and distibutor you have a chance. Basic iginition circuits you will most times fix, Electronic it may be a transistor you wont fix that in the outback. If you want a simple life stick to contact breaker and coil, carry...

Re: Misfire questions
Ok my problem is fixed, it caused me stress, do we not all get stressed at times , but it was not the compression or the valve gaps it was a build up of factors.

Re: Misfire questions
You hadn't mentioned that the valve gaps had been recently set - I can't read minds.......... The idea was to set them correctly - AND THEN do a compression check....... Think before you speak You have really [Don't swear or you will be banned - Admin] me off, I want technical answers not cr...

Re: Misfire questions
So - you aren't going to bother checking the valve clearances -and then running a compression check ? :o Up to you - it's a very basic health check for the engine. The problem with 'stuck' vacuum advance is that it fools you into setting a false static ignition setting, and could very well lead to ...

Re: Misfire questions
Hi Yes rotor arm changed, I have worked on engines DIY all my life, to be honest valve clearances too big and engine is noisy, sounds like a bag of nails, runs crap but dosen't misfire, too small and it dosent misfire but ticks over bad, a small valve clearance lets in less air, eratic tick over, lo...

Engine out woes
Hi All Well low oil pressure so I decided its time to check out bearings. Sump off and center main bearing is copper. Big ends though ok. So check out forum and it seems I can detach block and swing it sideways over front grill. Would it swing sideways to clear everything, no way. Front grill off wh...

Got the shaft out, knocked out the wheel studs and put 4 nuts and bolts in the holes, managed to then slowly force it out. It had snapped in the middle of the planetary gear, ie right on the edge of the planetary gear splines and was jamming in the smooth part of the planetary gear, at which point i...

Broken half shaft
Hi Molly stopped with a loud crack, no drive, broken half shalf I thought. However one side out and is ok, the other will move 1/4 inch out and then it will turn propshaft, no amount of levering will move it any more. So push it all the way back in no drive to propshaft. When its a 1/4 inch out driv...

You all have just solved a problem, a knocking or rattle over bumps coming from the front offside, I had a crow bar on all the joints, no movement, nothing loose anywhere, thought well they will find it on the MOT and get a MOT failure. Checked out the master cylinder and sure enough bolts in wrong ...

Thanks, the seal is in, I did think on those lines but thought it is going scratch the base of the door I have just painted. A screwdriver was needed to push it in then a paint scraper to fully seat it. But a hot sunny day laid on my back, shorts on, no different to laying on a beach in spain, well ...

Bottom door seal
Hi All Trying to fit bottom door seal (EXC122) into the grooved rail under the door. Tried vaseline and brake oil but will it go more than 2" into the rail. Any tips or should I just leave it off. As for window side strips they would only slide in half way and jam but found by putting a small h...
