I had an Essex 3ltr in a SIII SWB Landy, MY God you would not believe how heavy that engine was!! It took 3 of us to carry it and that was a struggle!!
But Hell did it go well!!

What was the idiot doing to hit you from behind??? The witnesses (thankfully there were several) said he swerved at the last minute to avoid us and lost control of the back of his car, which is what I think hit us, but not sure. The speculation is that he was on his phone or 'otherwise distracted'....

If you don't have seat belts fitted, PLEASE fit them. Me and my daughter walked away from this today. We were hit from behind and rolled over before coming to rest on it's wheels. It's the same wire! It may not be marked '-ve' if it's an old coil. BTW - you should check and clean the contacts in the fuel pump and in the dizzy. The 'pip' and 'pit' they both had before will now reverse with the changed polarity - and it's best if you clean them flat or heavy wear/closed up gap...

I've just put a meter on both wires and can confirm that there is +12 volts on the White wire and nothing on the White/Black. This would seem to confirm that the White should be on the +ve terminal and the White/Black should be on the -ve terminal of the coil.

Should it illuminate with the ignition on but the engine NOT running, same as the oil pressure light? Mine doesn't, it doesn't come on at all, so wondering if the bulb's blown.

You're absolutely right! I now have self cancelling indicators! The problem on mine was that the arm bracket was too high on the column so the little nut thing was below the cancelling 'bits'. I moved the arm down a bit and now it all works, yipee!
