Re: Stop - Hey, What's that sound?
My old Traveller started making a right rattle from under the bonnet, usually when braking. It was the fan blades catching the radiator tank.
Re: BMC 1100!
I would have any of them but the Vanden Plas would certainly be the favourite! BMC must have recognised that there was a market for a small luxurious car. Then again there is something honestly simple about the Austins And Morrises. They were certainly well known for rust! Such a shame they were poo...
BMC 1100!
Is it wrong to say on here how much I'd like an 1100/1300? Never had one, but have always had Minis and Minors, 1100s still look great today and drive superb, might be time to see if there is one about for sale...

Re: Rear foot wells keep flooding
My pet hate on a Minor! My first one was like a goldfish bowl in the back if it rained, the rear window seal took a few attempts before I got it watertight. The side windows were leaking as well, even when replaced with new it took a while to get them dry. Sometimes the door seals let water in, espe...

Re: Morris Minor everyday only car?
Minors are fine for daily use. I used mine as my only car for 8 years or so. As said, keep the maintenance and waxoyling up and replace any leaking rubbers, a Minor that is wet inside is not a nice car to sit in!

Re: how do i check my valve seats are ok?
If Ive got a head off I always whip the valves out for how long it takes and clean the ports up. If the valves are reusable clean them up in a drill, or get some new ones, then grind them in. Well worth doing.

Re: I'm am slowly giving up on my MM. One problem after another
Dont give up! Minors are reliable with some maintenance. When I first got mine it was rather unpredictable. The poor old thing had been run into the ground by about 30 previous owners.. I gave it a good service: new plugs, points, condenser, distributor cap, HT leads, ignition coil. Changed the oil ...

Re: loadsamoney!
A little bit overpriced perhaps! I like Pick ups but that is just way too expensive. I do hope that what has happened to Mini prices does not happen to Minors. Moggies have always been a cheap old fun car and long may that be so.
11 grand for a Minor?? No way.

Re: Cruising speed ?
Rather envious reading this as I dont have a Minor on the road at present! I always find them happy at 50mph, speedo pointing straight up and bowling through some nice bends!

Re: Restore or Buy ??
Sometimes you have to accept that restoring a car is very time consuming and not always economical (if that is important) I have 3 Minors, all needing a lot of work, an MGB, Spitfire, and Land Rover to do as well. No way am I going to get round to all of them so I may well get a local Minor speciali...

Re: Not always starting...
As above, clean up the battery connections, check its actually being charged by the dynamo, are the starter motor cable connections clean and tight? solenoid working ok? If the battery is definately good, try another starter motor.

A bit of an open question this. What is the going rate for a project now? A Minor saloon for instance.

Re: Square eyes!
Does it have to be a Traveller? As nice as they are, Travellers do have their problems. They need under cover storage for a start and good ones do command higher prices. Would a Minor saloon not meet your needs? My 4 door has served me well for 10 years, done 2 house moves in that time and only now ...

Re: Is people’s ability to join a motorway safely getting worse
As an addition to this thread the same can be said about drivers inability to grasp the fundamentals of negotiating a roundabout. We took Jethro on a 50 mile round trip this morning and driving up to a roundabout and turning right with offside trafficator and flashing indicator operating we were ne...

Well one would hope not! Good luck with the car if you buy it, if not don't worry, there are plenty more Moggies about.

Re: Cruising speed ?
Oh well BMC, they need a good blowout sometimes! Other drivers attitudes sometimes grate though. I can be doing 60 on a 60 road and at some point will have some pillock an inch from the back bumper, you just know that if it was a "modern" car I was driving they would not feel the need to h...
