Re: Oil Leak Somewhere?

Wow. Usual fantastic response as always.
I will have a look at cleaning the breathers now - I have fitted an oil breather pipe to the rocker outlet so ill check that for anymore goop.
If they're clean, ill do those check and look at changing the rocker cover gasket :D

Oil Leak Somewhere?

Hi, I seem to have an oil leak somewhere but can't find the issue. It is slightly 'wet' with oil under the cylinder head on the spark plugs side but also from the rocker cover to the rear. On the carb side its wet all down from the head. I drive 15 mins to work everyday at 50-60 ish but seems to use...

Re: insurance

Hmmm. I don't work for an insurance company but I reckon they know that there were more claims due to the ice and they can blaim it on the inflation!

Damn!. Just got in from changing it. She seems to be running amazingly smoothly now with the original filter on. I think I will use all your advice for the other car ;)

Re: insurance

I'd watch is Chris, my renewal came through last week at £840. £45 more than last year. I still haven't worked out the reasoning for this. Ive gone from 18 to 19 and its still gone up.
Those that got cheaper insurance: did you renew before this year?
Also what other companies should I try?

Re: How to tune for air filter - Jerking on mid throttle!

One helpful MMOC member I have been mailing suggested the needle, I just wanted to keep my engine totally original with just an airfilter but I assume that isn't so possible. Also having just seen my fuel bills I think I will pop it in the other Minor under engine restoration we have so that can be ...

How to tune for air filter - Jerking on mid throttle!

Hi. I bought a cone air filter (K&N style from a mini) for my standard 1098 with the HS2 carburettor. I have fitted it and tried to tune accordingly. It really does pull well when I am flooring it, and she idles well however on mid throttle, ie driving normally, theres small bursts of power and ...

Re: Strange noise from engine bay?

Mark - I did wonder this but it has solved the problem which is a bit strange.
Can you think of any reason why it would have been this?

Re: Strange noise from engine bay?

Well. Had it running and sprayed some duck oil onto where the fan and belt meet and the noise disappeared. Saved me taking anything off!
Thanks for the advice though, if I had the time I would've taken it off and found that anyway. Quick responses as usual :D
Cheers

Re: Strange noise from engine bay?

I haven't tried it yet however my boss who did his apprenticeship on mogs and worked on them for sometime listened to it himself and reckons it was the belt and fan pulley and just needs a spray of oil while running in there. I'll go try :)

Re: Strange noise from engine bay?

I will check that next time I start her up. Too cold to start just for a nois atm. It sounds noisier around the front right (carb side) of the engine block. It is a noise as if metal was rubbing against each other. Hmm

Inlet manifold or exhaust?
Remember we rebuilt the engine last year, would this still be an issue?

Strange noise from engine bay?

Hi there. I noticed this one cold evening when starting the car, a cold scratchy sort of noise. I drove on and she ran beautifully but still making the noise when I got home as she was warm. The next journey I didn't do anything and the car was fine and then it started again this morning as I starte...

Re: Winter driving

My car being totally original I don't want to rust quickly. However because of my love for it I drive it everyday and starting next week, for work everyday. Why not. She has been waxoyled by a professional and will be undersealed properly next year. Regular cleaning and good protection will last for...
