Re: Air in brake line
That's fascinating. I will have to look at the end of the brake line to see what they fitted. They replaced one short piece of line to the brake cylinder from the junction below the radiator. The wheel cylinders were replaced because there were signs of leakage in the drum (it was damp).

Re: Air in brake line
I'm loosening it by no more than a quarter turn. The fluid is flowing through very well at that position, so no need to open it further. But you're right, it does sound like it's getting in at the very end of the line, past the threads on the nipple. That's the first thing the mechanic said at East ...

Air in brake line
I had my mechanic replace the two wheel cylinders on the front driver's side wheel of my 68 Minor 1000. When I got it back the brakes stopped me nicely, but the pedal was nearly going to the floor. I took it back and they bled the system again, but to no avail. I checked the adjustments on the cams ...

Stalling
I have had a horrible, seemingly incurable misfire for months. Tried everything – except putting in a new distributor. So last week I went for it and changed the car's polarity and put in an Accuspark electronic ignition distributor. The misfire has finally disappeared and the car is running great –...

Re: Fuel starvation?
The car broke down completely last weekend, had to get towed. The tow truck driver thought he could see sparking in the distributor (not at the points). I went for it and changed the car's polarity and put in an Accuspark electronic ignition distributor. The misfire has finally disappeared and the c...

Re: Fuel starvation?
Thanks, guys. I know it pumps quite a lot, because I did take the line off the carb and put it in a glass jar and let it run, and it clicked away merrily and filled the jar. But I didn't do anything scientific like measuring the amount over time. I'll try that as soon as I get the tank back in. And ...

Fuel starvation?
I tried to accelerate up a hill yesterday and the car just started to die. You could feel it pulling back. When I got to the top, I was able to let off the accelerator, and then it seemed fine when I needed to accelerate again. But then it happened a second time, and when I arrived at my destination...

Re: HS2 carbs
No, the arm only exerts the pressure it should because it is spring-loaded. It sits nicely against the side of the jet when extended. The jet is brand new and not out of true. The thing is, these may be minor (ahem) problems, but I have had almost no running out of the car for 18 months. First a big...

Re: HS2 carbs
Well, that didn't work. Half my reply suddenly disappeared. So here is the full thing again: Well, all was not what it seemed. When I got the carb off the car, the adjusting nut was the right way round. I think the shiny metal at the top of the jet base might have looked like the top of the adjustin...

Well, all was not what it seemed. When I got the carb off the car, the adjusting nut was the right way round. I think the shiny metal at the top of the jet base might have looked like the top of the adjusting nut. In any case, that wasn't the cause of the lateral movement in the jet. I took some pic...

Re: HS2 carbs
The jet tube is present. Here are a couple of photos of the underside of the carb, although I'm not sure what they reveal.

Re: HS2 carbs
I'm pretty sure I understand how the SU carb works, and how the needle and jet interact. After I had successfully centred the needle in the jet and consistently got that satisfying metallic click when the piston was dropped – and this was happening both before and after I installed the carb on the c...

Re: HS2 carbs
The problem is not with centring the needle anymore. As I said, I finally managed to get it centred ok. But as soon as I adjusted the mixture, the engine started running rough again, and when I hold the bottom of the jet housing (the black plastic bit), the jet moves around quite easily. So the need...

Re: HS2 carbs
Progress has ben made, and then not! I centred the needle in the jet, which took some doing. Every time I tightened the locking nut, the piston got hung up and wouldn't fall cleanly. I eventually manage to get it to work properly, by not tightening the locking nut too vigorously. I put it back in an...

Re: HS2 carbs
Thanks, Phil. I thought centering was only necessary for the spring-loaded needles. I see SU give a procedure for fixed also. I rebuilt the carb a couple of months ago, but did not pay attention to this. Looks like the carb's coming out again! So I really can't use even an earlier SU carb for a Mino...

Does it matter which AUD number HS2 1.25" carb I use I use on a 1098cc Minor? My dashpot is sticking horribly and I can't seem to make it run smoothly up and down in its channel. I can get a AUD359 off eBay for £40. Is there any reason I can't use it? I just rebuilt my old one, so I have all th...
