Hi. I had a very similar problem with mine, a couple of years ago. It turned out it was the coil which I had only replaced a couple of weeks earlier. Of course I tried all manner of things to get it going, discounting the coil because of its newness, but once I had limped it home, I put on an old co...

Hi. AFAIK, a voltmeter and battery condition meter are the same thing, monitoring the voltage of the car's electrical system - I had one fitted to my old Mini and it proved very useful as it indicated that my alternator wasn't actually charging the battery half the time (a quick tap with a hammer on...

Thnks for the replies. I'll pop down to B&Q and have a look at the cheap dehumdifiers, and also get some airbricks (Brick size ones would be easier than the big square ones to fit, by looking at it). :) I don't use the Morris every day, but there are times when it will get wet as it is not a &qu...

I'm pretty sure some breakdown recovery trucks (over a certain weight and type) are MoT exempt. I remember having a kit car towed home once on the back of a truck, and when I enquired why it had no seatbelts, holes in the floor etc., the driver told me it didn't need a test. A strange situation real...

Garage - To ventilate or not?

Following the sale of my old Mini Clubman Estate this weekend, the garage is now free for my pride & joy (1969 1000 Saloon) to use. The garage is, to use estate agent speak, "part integral", i.e. partly built into the house, 1970s style. It currently has no ventilation other than small...

It seems it is a 1098 engine (fortunately!). There is no drain tap and the appropriate number is cast onto the head under the rocker cover. I "gunked" the engine this morning and it looks like a reconditioned unit to me - it is a satin black colour (apart from the rocker cover) and looks e...

Thanks for the replies. I can't get to the traveller until Monday, but I'll go up and whip off the rocker cover and have a look, I'll also check for the presence of a drain tap on the block.

Thanks again! :D

Thanks for that. I have just had a look and there is no plate there at all. I have found the one on my '69 saloon, which says 1100.

Seems like there is something a bit fishy about the traveller's engine perhaps!

1098cc Engine Identification

Hi All! This is my first posting. I have just bought a rather rotten Traveller for a cheap price with a view to using the engine and gearbox in my 1969 saloon which has done over 120,000 miles! The traveller is a 1965 C-reg model with 39,000 miles on the clock and should theoretically have a 1098cc ...
