Re: Annoying intermittent misfire
Well, hats off to you Roy your theory was spot on... Have just done a compression test which revealed nothing on cylinder number two. After whipping the rocker cover off the problem is revealed; exhaust valve stuck. I guess the reason it has been missing on startup is because when switching off the ...

Re: Annoying intermittent misfire
Never say 'never' Roy! In twenty odd years I have had two coils fail, most recently on my 1275 Midget. Granted though, this is a very rare occurrance and these symptoms don't suggest that anyway. It's really been a case of changing the easy parts first (raided from a rather large collection of spare...

Annoying intermittent misfire
Bought a cheap tatty '68 traveller last week to add to my fleet. Bravely drove it from Oxford to Devon, car did really well though the brakes are terrible. Find it hard to believe they were free when it was mot'd last December (no handbrake at all!). When buying it the guy mentioned it had developed...

Check your bonnet catches!
Afternoon all, Had a scary mishap this morning when my bonnet decided to lift at 60mph and fold back pushing the centre of the roof down by about 8". It then tore free and I haven't yet been able to find it! My little mog of 21 years ownership is trashed! :( If this had happened in my convertib...

Re: 1969 Traveller - 1275 engine - what clutch do I need ?
I agree with BMC here (even if he does think I'm foolish! ) My '69 Minor has been running with the original 'box and 1275 Ital engine (and HIF44, LCB, 3.7:1 diff, Metro dizzy etc) for 18 years and the 'box is no different now to when I first upgraded. I only double declutch if needing to chan...

Re: Wide Wheels
Well, have just received the call from the blasters and apparently the wheels are blasted, zinc primed and powder coated in OEW. They have even wrapped them for me too! Should be interesting...

Re: Model changes & original colours???
Yep, two spoke wheel was introduced in '64 along with tandem wipers and redesigned dash with black speedo, aluminium finisher, key start, single glove box lid and heat-formed seats instead of duotone.

Re: Wide Wheels
I must admit, I'm in a dilemma at the moment as to whether to keep them or not. They are now away being shotblasted and powdercoated. I can't decide whether to put on my car or not. Watch this space, they may be appearing on a well known auction site soon!

Re: Improvement of Brakes
And ABS is absolutely useless - in fact a complete menace - in snow! As I found out last winter - and very nearly ended in a hedge - only avoiding at the last second by coming off the brakes completely so I could steer the car into a broadside ! Yep, I overshot a junction and ended up in the middle...

Re: Wide Wheels
Yes, I have read about this. These though I am convinced are as they would have left the Dunlop factory. They look like the original riveting and are stamped around the middle with the 5.5J x 14 size. The Dunlop logo is there too. I first spotted them on the car about 18 years ago and by the time I ...

Re: Wide Wheels
I'm not totally sure what you mean by banded? I guess you are referring to either a reinforcement band or steel let into the rim to widen them? But if this is so, no they are exactly as the original Minor wheels but significantly wider. I guess this must make them even rarer than LP936s?! They are c...

Re: Wide Wheels
Thanks for your comments BMC. I bought them from a terminally ill Riley 1.5 about 13 years ago (I also bought the diff from another one next to it) I remember the guy I bought them from believed the car had been used for rallying, so that would make sense! I forgot I had them until recently!

Re: Wide Wheels
Hmmm... Interesting. I have an original Dunlop set of 14" 5.5j wheels. 4" PCD and Minor hubcaps fit beautifully. They have a large positive offset (deep dish). Can't find an LP number on them anywhere.

Can anyone confirm the width of LP936 wheels. I know that LP917s are 4.5J, but are 936s the same?

Re: Do you have a 1275 Engine....some feedback
Hi I fitted a still packaged gold seal Ital engine to my '69 2 door in 1992. I also fitted Marina discs and servo. Gearbox is as before but changed the diff to 3.7:1 one from a Riley 1.5. Carb is HIF44 and distributor is MG Metro. I also fitted a twin box large bore LCB exhaust. The car is very usea...

East The Water... Hmmm... I live about 16 miles from there. Some locals refer to it as 'Bideford East' in order to be discreet about where they live!! Bideford is in a lovely spot, sadly it's not all it could be and needs some TLC. East the Water is the lower class part of the town. I'm not saying a...

I'm of the opinion that if someone owns something, then it's up to them what they do with it (even if it is our money buying it, though a Marina or two isn't exactly going to break the bank!). I am personally very glad the Marina ever existed - where else would I have got disc brakes for my mog in t...

If your car is a later type with key switch solenoid I would also check that. I assumed a year or two back that the starter in mine had a problem because it would just click the solenoid most of the time when turning the key. After changing the motor it still did the same! After replacing the soleno...
