Update- Thanks for the suggestions so far- very helpful. I've discovered I do have a crankcase breather which doesn't run to the carb. Would connecting this to the carb create more of a vacuum and improve engine efficiency/oil leak problems? I've also noticed some slight oil bubbles escaping from th...

The oil cap says GFE 6007, thats all I know about it. I did notice a bit of oil in the grooves on the top of the engine, but I think this is most likely spillage from the many times I had to stop and top up. What would be the significance of using a 1098 timing chain with a 1275? http://farm3.static...

Oil leak again!!!!
A while ago I posted on here about a massive oil leak I had, from the rear of the sump-ish- which only seems to happen on long journeys i.e. about 8 litres of oil in 300 miles. It doesn't leak or consume/burn oil during my day to day driving, or when standing (mostly short journeys), and there is ne...

There was no smoke, so is it safe to assume its leaking and not burning? Firstly how would I check if the radiator/water pump is working correctly (I haven't noticed any problems with this- I've topped it up maybe twice in 6 months)? And also, how does one go about checking compression? One other th...

Oil leak
My car drinks oil on long journeys (or spews it out), after about a solid hour of driving- anything less than this and its fine. I did a 300 mile round trip at the weekend, and got through ~8 litres of oil! I've been told its leaky seals, as everything seems structurally sound. Are these a nightmare...

I hate to admit it, but I will need to put a roof rack on my beloved '66 morris 1000...
Can anyone recommend a roof rack which will fit snugly to accomodate 1 or 2 bikes or a kayak?

What does this button do?
Apologies if this is a dumb question, but I've only owned my car for 4 months : I've just noticed a button sticking up out of the floor carpet, about 40cm forward of the gearstick, and to the top left of the clutch. What does it do? I'm guessing its in front of where the gearbox plate cover/dipstick...

More electrics problems.....
At the moment it seems like as soon as I fix one thing, another problem develops which needs fixing. Earlier in the week my car wouldn't start (it would with a bump, but the electrics wouldn't work, incl. fuel gauge). I sorted this by replacing a fuse (possibly for the alarm/immobiliser)- somebody s...

Thanks. I just swapped a couple of glass fuses around, and it started, so I've replaced the dodgy fuse (which did appear fine), and now all seems ok. I'm still not sure of the cause of this tho' (this is the 2nd time in 6weeks), as I thought the starter/ignition wasn't supposed to be fused? I suppos...

Starting problems
OK, heres a problem. This morning I drove my morris 1000 for a couple of miles (started first time), I then stopped for a few minutes and when I came back to it it wouldn't start. The ignition light did not come on, but it did click. The fuses are all ok, and the battery indicates it has full charge...

Re: engine stopped
Be prepared for further problems as NONE of the the ignition circuit or the starter circuits items are fused. Therefore that was not the answer to your problems. Will this always be the case, or are the ignition/starter circuits something which are generally not fused? The car had had a whole heap ...

Hi, thanks for the replies. After disconnecting the immobiliser and checking all the wiring, it turned out it was just a fuse! It appeared fine externally, but there was a slight crack in the end (glass type) which seems to have made all the difference. So now my '66 minor 1000 is back on the road. ...

Help, my car won't start....
I must admit I'm a bit of a novice, so any help would be appreciated. I've never had a problem with my car starting, but today after I'd been driving for a few miles, I came to a stop at a crossroads, and then the engine completely cut out, and I had to be pushed to the side of the road. :( When I t...
