As I suspected . The gearbox was a John Evans recon box of about 20 years ago - I don't know whether he is still around?
Given the price of re-con boxes, a home rebuild is a distinct possibility! Luckily I have a spare so won't be off the road too long.

Muriel Minor developed a regular knocking noise in her 1098 gearbox today.

Only occurs in 1st, 2nd and 3rd and reverse- knocking is related to speed.

Any thoughts?

chassis number should be stamped on bulkhead just to the right of bulge where bonnet pull rod comes through......unless it has been ground off.....
