Re: mystery running problem! 3 AA calls in 3 days!

You can check the float valve by firstly inspecting it for any 'ridging' and secondly by holding it closed while someone switches on the ignition, or blow through it if you don't mind the petrol taste! But if the pump ticks away steadily when the engine is not running - the float valve IS the probl...

I looked and looked for the right material and I think I found it, thick gasket paper. Even fairly water proof. I sold the car before I acualy made them t...

Normal solder should be OK, I soldered the wire back onto one of the heating elements on my ceremic hob with it and it hasnt melted yet.

The Jabsco is a proper positive displacement self priming pump, it pumps the river water through the weed filter to the engine. I had dinner with a couple of Jabsco guys a few years ago, they still make these pumps in the UK but were moaning that they dont make any money from spare parts as they are...

Marinised A series engines

may be of interest to some... I found some old boat engines today and happened to have my camera. Photos here http://i419.photobucket.com/albums/pp280/yuxi1/pictures019.jpg The block castings had 950 and MOWOG cast on the manifold side. Some interesting features - The starter motor is mounted higher...

Try heating the plug and the surrounding area with a blow torch, this has always worked for me,on Morris Minors and more modern gearboxes. Its a tapered thread on a steel plug into an aluminium housing so they corroded together a bit.

Reminds me of when I wiped down the distributor side of the engine and removed the dipstick to make it easier. I then went for a 5 mile drive and thought it was strange that I could smell hot oil and fumes. I got back to find the whole engine covered in oil from the dipstick hole because I had forgo...

I agree, if you can keep a Morris Minor on the road you can scrape loose mortar out between stones and fill the gap with mortar/cement.

Too many things to do with house maintenance are actualy very simple but too many people are scared of them.

Head lining help required

Hi,

I am replacing my roof lining and have read all the guides.

I am trying to release the clips on the wooden former, do I put the knife/hacksaw blade/steel rule under the wood or above it? If you have done it you will know what I mean!

Thank you

Changing the seal has to be the way to go.

Not sure that painting the propshaft will affect the balance, knocking off a balance weight while doing it may be though.

I tried everything I could think of then someone on Pistonheads reccomended Bilt Hamber Surfex HD, its water based and you mix it to whatever concentration you want, its very very good and removed dirt that bleach etc. would not touch.
The wife now uses it all round the house.

I put a full length one in my Avenger, it housed my graphic equalizer, vacuum gauge, battery gauge and a rev counter out of a citroen.

I thought it would help me get girls.
