Re: Morris Oxford Wheel Nuts
I think they're 60 degree, same as Ford. if that's the case, Burton Power might stock them.

Re: Not another engine swap question!
Reliant ss1 has a similar wheelbase, 1.8T could be quite entertaining. I've seen a picture of the SS1 chassis. It's not really suitable for rebodying in any way shape or form. It's sort of a cross between a chassis and a spaceframe (if that makes sense) and would require major modification to fit w...

Re: TR7 rear Axle
Twincamman is this the type of gearbox you're referring to? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-4-speed-gearbox-Cortina-Escort-Capri/254614470538?hash=item3b48347f8a:g:NzQAAOSw0~de1TmS On the same theme, is the Midget/sprite gearbox any stronger than the Minor box? That looks like a Mk1/Mk Escort 1100/...

Re: TR7 rear Axle
That's very interesting, I would really have no need for a 5 speed box so the more cost effective 4 speed makes perfect sense. Thanks for the information, as I stated in my original post its very early days in my particular build but I can see how the car is shaping up already. Regards Dermot. Migh...

Re: TR7 rear Axle
The 4-speed TR7 uses the Dolomite/Marina axle (though the width may be different). The 5-speed TR7 uses a different axle, which is a 4-stud version of the SD1 axle. This will take V8 power, and not just Rover V8 either. The downside is that the diff is not a 'banjo' type like the Minor, Marina and E...

Re: Advantages or otherwise of changing / uprating the diff
It would probably be an improvement on an 803, and it would be useful if you wanted to drive a 1098 up the side of Ben Nevis. Other than that try to sell it to a Spridget owner who does sprints/hillclimbs. It is of limited use as an upgrade to a Minor.

Re: Conversation piece
:D Having owned an Austin 7 in the past and being very aware of its limitations (A Morris Minor 1000 was a revelation after that!) I think the chassis would require quite a bit of modification before putting 100bhp through it   The chassis would probably be OK if you box it, but I wouldn...

I think they changed from the 'ratchet' type to the 'twist to lock' type when they dropped the pull-start.

Re: Speedo vs Diff query
If you compare the tpm figure with the 1408 tpm speedo fitted to most 1098 Minors it'll be about 6% slow. So at 70mph, the speedo will be showing about 66mph. How the new wheels will affect this depends on the tyre diameter. If you go for 175/65 x 14 or 185/60 x 14 tyres, they will partially cancel ...

One interesting thing that's come out of this is the old 'we have an unwritten constitution' chestnut. If it's not written it doesn't exist just like my unwritten homework or referring to an unwritten dictionary. This puts power with the small number of people who get to interpret this invisible to...

The best analogy I heard about the whole debacle was this:-
The Government asked the country if it fancied a night out. 52% said yes without knowing the destination.

Re: New engine blocks
The short length of the 'A' series compared to other engines of its era, coupled with a pretty stout crank by small car standards will make it less prone to crank whip than most three bearing engines. If you wanted to go extreme in the hp stakes (say 150+ bhp) then you'd probably be better off inves...

How about using a timer relay. It works off a momentary switch and switches the HRW off after 10 mins.
