Re: Alternator Kit
Well she used to burp and pop and crack and she doesn't anymore, without having touched anything else than the alternator

Re: Alternator Kit
Ok I found where the clip goes, though it doesn't seem to fit as intended: there is a 5 mm gap between the clip and the slot on the connector where it's meant to catch. [frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=1419275386_5754 [/frame][frame]In the end I've swept it all the way back. No sure it hol...

Re: Alternator Kit
All done! She runs a lot more happily with her new alternator. Looks like she's getting better sparks. After mounting the kit I noticed that a clip was left in the box. To give you an idea of the size it's been photographed on a business card: [frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=1419272636_57...

Re: Alternator Kit
What is best: head up like Theo's or horizontally as originally fitted on the dynamo?
If I am to drill holes I might as well fit it horizontally if it's better for any oil within.
Cheers

Re: Alternator Kit
That's not possible unless I drill holes in the inner wing, which I'm a bit reluctant to do. The bump stop mounting bolts are a good mounting points but as their are located right under the damper the coil can only be mounted head-down there. I've taped the rubber cover and the lead to the coil. It'...

Re: Alternator Kit
Well Panky was right: a few gentle taps the Jeremy Clarkson way moved the pin to the other side and the alternator went in neatly. Just need to mount the coil to the bump stop mounting bolts now, but it's a real pain as the bolt heads are turning free on the other side. I'm just a bit worried about ...

Re: Alternator Kit
Hi, I've received my kit and started to put it in but I'm a bit puzzled because on the alternator I received the small tube on the rear mounting is the other way round compared to the picture above. As a result the alternator doesn't fit on the brackets: [frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=14...

Lucas regulator reference
Hi,
Would anybody know the Lucas reference for the Minor 1000 regulator with push on terminals (SWH102 at ESM)?
I'm trying to find one in France.
Best regards,
Pascal

Re: Blown control box ?
By the way given the relatively small price difference between a dynamo and an alternator kit which one would you recommend for peace of mind ?

Re: Blown control box ?
Actually I've tested the dynamo as shown in the workshop manual (wire between the dynamo terminals) and found a reading of less than a volt. I'll try to swap the brushed or swap it with with a reconditioned dynamo altogether.

Blown control box ?
Hi, I took my Minor for an 80 miles trip last week. The battery was nearly flat (the car had been idle for two months) so I had to crank up the engine manually. Then the ignition light didn't come off. The car ran ok for about 70 miles but then I turned on the sidelights and it sputtered to a halt a...

Re: Battery reads 900 V !!!
Well I've spoken to a battery specialist who said that such a high voltage can happen if there is a broken/faulty plate in the battery. The broken plate has very high electrical resistance, which causes the current to drop and voltage to rise. So even if it amounts to a few hundred volts the voltage...

Re: Battery reads 900 V !!!
Well it´s definitely 900 V. The voltmeter went mad and I had to switch it the 1000 V DC scale to get a reading.

Hi, After neglecting my moggy for 6 months I went to start it and not surprisingly found the battery very weak. The ceiling light hardly lit. I took the battery off the car, plugged my auto charger but the latter only applied the trickle charge. I left it that way for 24 hours, and when I unplugged ...

Re: battery dimensions
I've found a fairly cheap battery (40AH - 340A) with the following dimensions :
width : 207 mm
depth : 175 mm
height : 190 mm
How will that fit ?
best regards

Hi,
Can anybody tell me the maximum battery size (width x depth x height) that the battery bay will take ? My moggy is miles away and I need to buy a new battery.
Best regards,
Pascal

Re: number plate size
Hi customjob,
Thank you for this comprehensive answer. I've actually exported my moggy to France and over here they allow black plates for any vehicle over 30 years old.
best regards

Re: Dynamo: C39 or C40?
Looks like the reference is RTC466. I could find them on Mini and Land Rover web sites, but not on Morris Minor web sites, strangely enough.
