Thanks for all the comment. As far as flywheel lightening goes, I dropped a new clutch in when I fitted the engine but I didn't notice anything obvious. At that stage though, I hadn't checked out the bottom end. It idles smoothly enough - maybe another reason to think the flywheel's not been lighten...

Or perhaps the forum software doesn't think 2MP is worth scaling down!

The bore WAS desperately worn - the picture's just there for entertainment value. I couldn't believe how worn it was. Needless to say it was very noisy and lacked power! I daren't thrash it and never went over 40mph. This car clocked <100 miles for several years so I didn't worry! As for the large p...

Balanced crank? - also 4:1 compression

Hi, This engine was an ebay special - £40 with little or no info. The seller left it out in the rain with no plugs(!) but on removing the head all is well. Very well in fact. Except... I kept finding loosened bolts everywhere so when the engine performed well but sounded noisy under load I dropped t...

Thanks for all the advice. For the record, I DID have to saw the baseplate, but I used an old dizzy. Pain to fit, but it has made a difference, just as new points and condenser probably would have 8^). My motivation was being fed up cleaning the points after being stood outside for weeks/month at a ...

Lumenition - I don't want to saw my distributor!

I just got a Lumenition set for 25D distributor but it seems I have to saw the pivot for the contact breaker just to get the module to fit the baseplate! Has anyone else had to do this and if so, how do you remove the base plate to do it?!

Cheers,

Toby
