Re: Not enough revs.
Thanks for all the suggestions, after lots of stripping and rebuilding the carb, I found a problem with the jet adjusting thread. It appeared to be fully would in, as per starting point in the manual but was in fact no where near so once backed of the engine was effectively running on near full chok...

Re: Not enough revs.
Tried all the suggestions, still not getting there but when I got the car, the card needle (AN) had been fitted sticking out about 3mm rather then the shoulder being level with the piston face, which I guess would have made the mixture lean. Put it back to that position and quite an improvement but ...

Re: Not enough revs.
Thanks for that. It’s something I hadn’t thought of- a stuck/sticking piston, will check that and also make sure the throttle is opening fully. I admit, having stripped and rebuilt the carb, I assumed it was fully functioning - possibly a touch of vanity on my part.

Re: Not enough revs.
Hi thanks for your response. It won’t rev to a point in neutral, that sounds as if it’s reaching the 4500/5000 rev level, I’ve had lots of A series engines and it’s no where near where I would expect to need to change gear. When I floor the accelerator on neutral, it revs freely to maybe 3500 revs, ...

Not enough revs.
Good morning. Still having trouble with my 1956 four door, fitted with 1098 low compression engine. Problem is it starts and runs beautifully and pulls very well but will not reach higher revs. I don’t know the actual revs but I get 10/12 mph in first, 15/20 second, 30/35 in third and 40/45 in top. ...

Re: Fuel pump problem!
Thanks for all the pointers, I shall give this pump (it is an under bonnet sucker type) a run to see if it will last for a while and in the meantime save up for a genuine SU pump. I appreciate the comment on using copper pipe but to try and avoid work hardening I have lined the securing points with ...

Fuel pump problem!
I’m still having problems getting my mk11 running reliably. I’ve had a lot of help here already, for which many thanks. Situation now is my original pump (Hardi) started to pump like a machine gun before slowing to a smoother regular stroke - still about 1 stroke a second . Decided to replace it wit...

New fuel pipe
Good afternoon all, I have had some very useful advise here for the various problems arising with my 1956 split screen, many thanks. I now have yet another problem I am hoping to get some help with. Whilst fitting a new fuel pump, the fuel line split. Having bought a new copper fuel pipe, I removed ...

Oil filter
Can anyone help please, I have been sold a MANN
H804 t filter. It looks rather long and I didn’t want to drain the oil until I have all the parts necessary. Is this actually the correct part, if not does anyone have the correct part number please? It’s for the 1098 engine.

Re: Engine identification.
Thanks for that, I think I’ll probably see how I get on with the low pressure setup.

Re: Engine identification.
Thanks again for the information. I’ve now checked the compression and get 95, 90, 94.5, 95. psi. Which seems well Ok for balance but I assume this confirms the low compression version. When I get some spare time I’ll see which pistons are fitted and perhaps I can uprate the compression.

Engine identification.
Good afternoon, I have just joined the club, having now bought a 1956 series 2. This particular car has a 1098 engine upgrade and I am trying to find out which engine it actually is. I have tried some of the serial number charts but cannot get anything that seems right. The ID plate shows: 10v/189E/...
