Oh and by the way, I read somewhere that some early cars were equipped with two right hand thread nuts. I guess they relied on the locking washers to stop them unwinding.

Totally agree about the cable colours, my car looks to have had some rewiring done, and using black cable!

Thanks for the explanation Stephen. I tried using X and L and nothing happened on the light. I then tried the other relay and success, a flashing light connected to the X terminal.
