Re: MOT & how else would you prove roadworthy…..
Maybe a controversial view? Does the passing the MOT test mean a car is safe and roadworthy? Recent experience with our pickup leads me to think not. The previous owner diligently had MOT tests each year. It had a few advisories for different oil seal and seatbelt mounts that were quickly fixed as s...

Re: Electrical help
Hi Les, You’re of course right. The length of cable will affect the resistance in the circuit, however I’d expect it to be fairly negligible and wouldn’t be at all worried. As for heat when coiling the wires, again I think the effect would be negligible unless you’re making many tight coils. Cheers ...

Re: " Best" Upgrade
Many have replaced all of the bulbs. I didn’t go quite that far but did everything except the headlights. Duncan at www.classiccarleds.co.uk was a great help. I’ve used their leds in the Morris, MG Midget, Land Rover 90 and Volvo V70. Fantastic customer service! For the hazard lights we have a Lucas...

It is on the pickup but it came from ESM a few years ago.
I’ll try a 2BA and see.
Cheers

Fantastic, thanks. We’ll aim to get there early avoid traffic. Travelling from Wimborne via Salisbury, Swindon and Cirencester. It’ll be the furthest it’s driven in many many years! Looks like you're travelling a little further than I am. I've just booked for the Saturday, about 90 miles each way. ...

Re: 2025 National Rally
Does anyone know what time the gates open on Saturday please? We have registered but I can’t find any details. We haven’t been before but hope to have the pickup back on the road in time.
Many thanks

Re: Traveller Rear Door Handle
Also no idea why pic is turned 90º. Original file is ok. Any idea how i rotate images in future after they have been added/uploaded? Wes, I have had the same issue with pictures posted being at strange orientation. Svendin suggested making a minor edit before posting as a fix. Since then I use the ...

Re: rattling noise when nearside front wheel goes over pot holes
My recommendation is to firstly strip out the tie bar and check the rubbers at the front for serviceably. Check for wear of the reduced diameter of the tie bar at the front as it is not unknown for the tie bar to snap due to wear in that location. Check the rear of the tie bar to ensure that the ti...

Re: UNF Eye Bolt Pin supplier
Thanks Phil,
I misunderstood. I’m replacing the lower eye bolt pins while overhauling the front suspension. I replaced the upper trunnion pins last year and will do the lower trunnion and eye bolt pins this time.
Many thanks

UNF Eye Bolt Pin supplier
Hi, Apologies for a post over a PM but they seem to get stuck in my outbox and never get sent. Reading through several posts about eye bolt pins Phil recommends UNF over BSF pins as they have better formed shoulders. I can’t locate a source for these as ESM, Moss and Andrew Eggleton all list the BSF...

Re: Van leaf springs
Thanks Phil! I have a complete van set of Superpro bushes on the shelf. I think we’ll be ordering from Jones Spring Engineering as they say they can build complete sets to the original specifications including top and bottom plates and U bolts. The two week lead time will give me a chance to get eve...

Re: Van leaf springs
Here are photos of the worst affected springs in pieces. The crush tubes on the clamps are shot and one is missing. One of the bolts is a M10 replacement at some stage.

Re: Van leaf springs
How the van and pickup springs are assembled is different to the car and traveller. There are no rubber pads either side of the van and pickup spring - it is all solid. Looking at your photo it could be that the spring has not been assembled correctly or that the centre crown is degraded by rust wh...

Re: Van leaf springs
I see! Thanks. I had wondered about those bands.
Jones Springs Engineering came back at £145 +VAT each so more expensive but should last longer perhaps.
They said they would repair my set but they usually see that sort of wear on 1920s springs.
Many thanks
Andrew

Van leaf springs
Hi, I’ve been cleaning up the leaf springs on the pick-up and discovered one of the main leafs is quite worn by one of the clamp crush tubes. The crush tube itself was also very thin on one side. I’ve never seen this happen before. Can anyone with experience suggest a reason for such wear? I’ll have...
