Re: Water pump for 1275 engine
Hi Phil, Yes, they have an external fan with the rolling road. When the head gasket blew up the first time they forgot to switch on that fan. The result was a serious damage to the engine with damaged pistons and main and big end bearings. Flollowing that the engine was rebuilt completely including ...

Re: Water pump for 1275 engine
@Panky Thanks for that link. @ Phil, before I drove the car to the workshop to do the dyno tests I had about 1500miles without any thermal problems. I have driven it at different speeds and with revs up to 5000 at the end. Not a single minute with exeeding temperatures. So I don’t think it’s a gener...

Water pump for 1275 engine
Hi, does anyone know if there is a stronger water pump for a 1275 engine that delivers more flow than the original one? Backgrounds: The company doing the dyno tests on my car has managed to overheat the engine killing the head gasket the second time. :-(( They are now asking that question because t...

Re: 1275 Marina engine rebuilt and improved
Hi Phil, We ended up at 1.675 and lengthened the conrods to correct the pistons standing 0,75mm below block surface. They are now even. That has rised the compression ratio also to now 10.75:1. We will see if it lasts and how much hp will it produce at last. The much lighter internals will not produ...

Re: 1275 Marina engine rebuilt and improved
Hi Phil,
„Only if you had the Marina/Ital crankshaft reground to give extra stroke and fully reworked then the use of special conrods could be justified.“
That‘s what I did.

Re: 1275 Marina engine rebuilt and improved
The weight of the reciprocating mass has gone further down than expected as the new conrods weigh just 473g each. In total including cons, pistons and pins the weight is 1,430kg less than the original parts. Thats a lot. Additionally the adjustable vernier drive saves 100g. Timing the cam with the a...

Re: 1275 Marina engine rebuilt and improved
Hi rocco, Well, we had some 85 hp with incorrect needles and obviously not perfectly timed cam with standard gear. I‘ll now install an adjustable timing gear and guess that‘ll help to get some more power out of the 266 cam. All in all I expect something around 100 hp, as the head has been fully port...

Re: LED stop / tail bulbs and indicator bulbs
Hi, Just to mention, I didn‘t change the stop/tail lights to LED so far but I changed the indicator lights to combined white and yellow LED bulbs and use a clear lens instead of the yellow lens now. The white LED is used as a reversing light switched by the reversing light switch in my T9 gearbox. W...

1275 Marina engine rebuilt and improved
Hi, As I wrote in another relating post I have rebuilt a 1275 Marina engine and tuned it the classic way. After running in I drove the car to a company for dyno testing and adjusting the needles of the twin HS4 carburettors. Unfortunately the guy at the dyno missed to switch on the air fan while run...

Re: Crank rear oil seal
Thanks John. I usually bleed my brake systems by putting a vacuum on it and suck the brake fluid through. I never had trapped air in the brake system that way exept after working on it. But after that the system needs bleeding anyway.

Re: Crank rear oil seal
Why, it works well this way also. For what reason should be the reaction valve orientated this way? In my e-type it was just upright.

Re: Crank rear oil seal
Well, getting it to work was a hard job to do and there were several points I struggled hard not to give up and sell the whole stuff. But I‘m satisfied as it works now. In my case I had no other option than trying to fit a lip seal. Finding another crank shaft in good shape for a 1275 marina engine ...

Re: Crank rear oil seal
As many others I had the same problem to solve anyhow. But as my returning scroll on the crank shaft was badly worn and the parts of the block around it also I decided to use a lip seal conversion kit. …. And got the problems as predicted. At last I had to pull the engine out 8 times due to partly m...

Re: What's the optimum exhaust diameter for a 1275 Moggie?
But! You must use the 1 5/8“ LCB on a 1275 engine. The 1 1/2 ist too small, that one is suitable for a 1098.

It’s enough clearance even if gas shocks are installed. No problem.

Re: What's the optimum exhaust diameter for a 1275 Moggie?
My 1275 Marina engine is tuned quite similar to the one mentioned in the 1st post. I use a Maniflow 41mm LCB with a Maniflow 41mm exaust kit which is almost straight through. It works well and sounds great. A bit louder than the original exaust at idle and „like a much bigger engine“ on the drive. T...

Re: Ford N9 reversing light switch
Even if the thread is a bit older I found an answer. I looked for that kind of plug also and had to realize that it is difficult to find and expensive too. Look at this: https://malwoodauto.com.au/product/reverse-switch-connector-pigtail/ I found it on a German website also but at a similar pricing....

Re: Fuel gauge reading half-full when empty
Hi all, As I got rid off mystery readings of my temperature gauge I modified the voltage stabilzer. After opening the housing you’ll find a simple bimetal switch in it that delivers a sawtooth-like output voltage which should be somewhat 10V. I installed a small electronic voltage stabilizer with tw...

Re: Variable idling 1275 tuned Marina engine
@Phil To my opinion the orientation of the dash pots has no effect on the function. It is not possible to mount one or the other in a different direction due to the asymetric holding screws. At the moment I am not in the mood for dismantling the whole carb system and will let the guys look after it ...

Re: Variable idling 1275 tuned Marina engine
The 3 screws holding the dash pots are all in place. The dash pots don’t line up the same as the 3 carbs came out of a Healey and I just took the two I could use. The third one was a little damaged. I thought it would be just an optical issue not a functional one. Or am I wrong?
