Re: rattling noise when nearside front wheel goes over pot holes
OK can now see how the tie bar bushes fit could not see raised part in pic I looked at. Regarding the ARB looks as if mine is a bodged job (done in a previous ownership). I note that the vertical part of the bracket should be on the inside of the chassis but with that cannot see how you would get th...

Re: rattling noise when nearside front wheel goes over pot holes
Pictures attached and you can see that there is an ARB as well. Cheap and nasty looking as there was a rattle because the plastic clamp/bolts became loose (now sorted) but the the ARB bracket is attached to the chassis by a long bolt/nut that goes though it and that was loose as well. I think there ...

Re: rattling noise when nearside front wheel goes over pot holes
Sounds if coming from the underside. There must be a clue if it stops when braking. Checked rack and shock absorber bolts. Jacked up on chassis and under suspension arm used a pry bar under tyre nothing other than with side to side movement can detect the inner track rod end play, outer rod new. Roc...

rattling noise when nearside front wheel goes over pot holes
I think the rattling noise is coming from more than one source. I know the inner track rod end has free play as can hear it click when pulling on the joint and assume that this will give some noise when riding over pot holes. Read on here about other causes and everything seems normal. The car has f...

Re: Front disc brakes hub/wheel bearings
I have noted that the top hat sleeve D is 1.062 ins and the bearing inner D 26.99 mm/1.062 ins so assume interference/sliding fit. Mine measures approx. 1.052 so 10 thou under so that is why the bearing is sloppy. When I bought the car I checked the the road wheel movement and the NS was much more t...

Re: Front disc brakes hub/wheel bearings
How do you get the top hat sleeve off anyway. Note not available. Do you think I can get away with the existing one looking at the damage, how could it have got into this state.

Re: Front disc brakes hub/wheel bearings
Bearings out not much effort needed on the inner which was partially loose but outer needed some good whacks to get it moving. The inner marked PCB225W (cannot find any reference to this code) similar dimensions to Timken but thicker at 14.65 mm. Further possible problem. Do the inner bearing cones ...

Re: Front disc brakes hub/wheel bearings
Just found a Marina hub bearing video and just as you describe.
My concern is as the inner bearing cup has been rotating it may have worn the hub to the extent that a new bearing will be a loose fit. I can pull the cup partly out by hand.

Re: Front disc brakes hub/wheel bearings
Have the hub out on the bench. The outer bearing race is marked 30203 and looks like it may drift out with a suitable size socket. The inner race has no number. The cup part of the inner race rotates in the hub and sure this is not correct also the hub shoulder where it seats has some damage. Cannot...

Can you drift the bearings out with the brake disc still on the hub.
Does the additional washer missing on mine go in front of the trust washer, anything special needed.

Re: Front disc brakes hub/wheel bearings
I have the castellated locking washer. When I purchased the car there was too much play in the NS bearing (the one now with noise) so adjusted as normal for taper ones. However noted that the split pin only just engaged in the castle teeth. Recent inspection after around a further 1000 miles showed ...

Front disc brakes hub/wheel bearings
From my recent post about a droning noise which goes on braking and turning left I checked the hub grease caps for temperature with one finger after a 25 mile run. Could leave my finger on the NS one but only for a few seconds on the OS as hotter. Then took the road wheels off when cold and rotated ...

Re: Droning noise at low speed
Noise starts by about 10/15 mph seems to not change until much faster when I cannot hear it but may be masked by other noises. Checked the front wheel bearings and NS had some play so adjusted as taper type but noise still there. There are mud flaps fitted and noted they have been rubbing on the whe...

Droning noise at low speed
Noise starts at very low speed and gone by 50 mph. It also goes on braking and on turning left. The front brakes are discs and were pulling to the NS. The OS pads were sticking, so cleaned up pads and caliper and all good after a road test but the new droning noise started. The diff has some whine m...

Re: Rear brake adjustment
The OS lower lining is less than 1.5 mm in places so that could be the problem. 7in drums adjusters work can see the shoe moving out. Would have thought that you should still be able to lock the drum even with worn linings.

Rear brake adjustment
Having similar problems to an old post and looking as the handbrake is very poor and maybe the rear footbrake as well, The adjusters go all the way to the maximum then the next click takes them back to minimum and at max there is no resistance on the drum at all. The handbrake on the NS starts to co...

Re: Clonks and rattles from under the car
Jacked up under the suspension on the near side and when I move the the road wheel side to side I can here what sounds like a faint metallic click. It looks to be the tie rod inner joint unless the new track rod end is defective. Cannot detect any free play in either joint and there is nothing of co...

Re: Clonks and rattles from under the car
Is it possible to feel any play at that joint at the end of the rack. Is it the joint insider the gaiter. Can sometimes here a slight rattle when almost coming to a standstill.
