Re: The car is struggling to start off the key

Probably you would need full choke and it may need to be some way out for longer but as was noted earlier damp can be more of a problem than cold. If everything else is right it should still start easily. There are a few other winter tricks to try ( a blanket in the engine compartment for example)....

Re: The car is struggling to start off the key

Sorry to message again and I don’t want to get on peoples nerves but am I right in thinking the closer it gets to winter and the colder it is outside then the more choke she will need to start from cold and also the time she’s left standing will deplete before I would need to use the choke to starte...

Re: The car is struggling to start off the key

Glad to see your car is behaving better. The advice on here all seems a bit involved. Moggies do seem to have their own quirks but once you know them they usually start very easily for you. Hi You’re right about them having their own quirks, I just don’t drive her enough to get used to her quirks b...

Re: The car is struggling to start off the key

I have to admit that I find it quite difficult to comprehend such problems with the choke. To me it is absolutely second nature BUT there have been other people who have driven my car who have got themselves into a pickle with the choke and I have struggled to instruct them in a way that they under...

Re: The car is struggling to start off the key

Hi guys Well the car is absolutely fine now , she starts 1st time in the morning and again 1st try after work with Chloe, for some reason she doesn’t like me 😂, maybe its the lack of me using her enough from cold , she’s no bother at all if Chloe has already used her , she starts 1st try for me and ...

Re: The car is struggling to start off the key

Just to let you all know the car is absolutely fine , she started 1st try for Chloe on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday morning, all 1st turn of the key , all using full choke then pushed back in a touch, she also said it started 1st try after work Monday and Tuesday although she did say she stalled he...

Re: The car is struggling to start off the key

Though clearly well-intentioned, Rocco, I feel that, given Elaine's confession of almost absolute mechanical naivety (no offence intended Elaine) the old expression "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing" applies here. Any attempts by the ladies to evaluate and service the distributor c...

Re: The car is struggling to start off the key

Hello there About the Dizzy cap, it might be in a man’s mind to obviously check the dizzy but you have to remember this is mainly my daughters car and she is only in her 20s and although I am in my 50s it is still the first old car that either of us have driven and if she fails to start the only th...

Re: The car is struggling to start off the key

Glad the car is going again but - "before you know it we’ve usually tried that many times that we’ve either ran the battery flat or flooded her" Really, a Morris Minor in good running order should be very easy to start. It should not be so reluctant to start that the battery gets drained ...

Re: The car is struggling to start off the key

I wonder the suggestions I made a few weeks back were heeded? Dizzy cap would be the first place I'd look if I suspected dampness. Hello there About the Dizzy cap, it might be in a man’s mind to obviously check the dizzy but you have to remember this is mainly my daughters car and she is only in he...

Re: The car is struggling to start off the key

Fire her up! But go easy on the choke. Your problem is likely either over-enthusiastic use of the choke, or damp in the ignition system. Hard to know at a distance. Next time this happens, spray WD-40 all over the ignition HT leads and dizzy cap to disperse any damp before trying to start, going ea...

Re: The car is struggling to start off the key

First thoughts, if you had a lot of rain, the ignition system might have got as little damp; which might have made it less happy to start, but, depending what the temperature was, the car might not have needed full choke, so with so many attempts to start it, it might have just been flooded. I woul...

Re: The car is struggling to start off the key

Good afternoon, everybody My daughter Chloe went out last night in the car with friends. She returned About 1am And because it was so late and the noise the garage door makes when opening and closing it and the fact it wasn’t raining she just left the car on the drive, I got up at 9 am and it was al...

Re: The car is struggling to start off the key

Hi guys I’m so sorry I didn’t get back to you with the outcome and issue , after trying to start it over and over again I could hear it cough and splutter , it did start twice but just died , I asked if she was using choke , she said yes , I told her to push the choke fully in and try, she only turn...

The car is struggling to start off the key

Hello everyone

My daughter Chloe has just finished work and when she has come to leave, she says the car is struggling to start, She has had it started a couple of times, but it keeps spluttering and coning out. Do you think a push start? Might get it going properly?

Re: Choke cable snapped ?

if you have the sort of starter solenoid that you can operate from under the bonnet. put the ign on open the bonnet set the choke lever manually, and press the starter solenoid button, leave it to warm up a little and push the choke lever in as you normally would the choke on the dash, if not pump ...

Re: Flat battery

She is okay standing for three hours that doesn’t run the battery flat and there is still plenty of juice in the battery to get her started, On Sunday gone, I returned from shopping just before 11 am and I went to put her in the garage about 6 pm so she had stood just over seven hours, The first try...
