Re: Mechanic Charges of £1500, reasonable or unreasonable?
Thank you. I did try to agree everything in writing, but then he went off script. "It's in my terms and conditions on my website". Not a pleasant experience at all.

Re: Mechanic Charges of £1500, reasonable or unreasonable?
Thank you for your replies. I'm most grateful. I was upset because I explicitly told him not to do any further work whatsoever as I will be taking the car elsewhere for additional work. My usual garage was away, I'm not used to being charged for every washer, especially since the kit I have brought ...

Mechanic Charges of £1500, reasonable or unreasonable?
Hi everyone, I’ve had some repairs done on my vehicle and want to check if the pricing is reasonable as I am upset by this mechanic doing work I did not authorise and him breaking the work down into multiple bills despite this all being on one visit and lumping me with multiple shipping fees which I...

Re: Lumpy then no start a few days after dynamo to alternator conversion
Nooo, still with the alternator. I figured it might be the coil as it was so lumpy, I didn't want to be without. I can return it, Amazon prime

Re: Lumpy then no start a few days after dynamo to alternator conversion
Thank you. Problem solved, it was the cable leading to the coil. Yeah it was dynamo to alternator.
Thanks for your diagram, I connected all four cables on the first two junctions, A and A1 together.

Lumpy then no start a few days after dynamo to alternator conversion
Hi all, I thought I had successfully completed a dynamo to alternator conversion and everything was running smoothly for a few days. Then Friday morning, I had to turn back home as things were really really lumpy, rough driving and couldn't reach the top of the road. I got home though but now the ca...

Re: Drain when clutch depressed
check if your clutch is fully disengaging. Put the car in gear with ignition off, to prevent starting, now push the clutch pedal fully down and get someone to turn the engine with starting handle to see if it rotates without trying to move the car. I've tried this just now, with the clutch pressed ...

Re: Drain when clutch depressed
Thinking about it this is most likely true....myoldjalopy wrote: ↑Thu Sep 12, 2024 10:37 pm It might be that clutch drag with the pedal depressed is causing the engine to turn over with more difficulty, making it seem that the battery is drained......?
Thanks for all your input.

Re: Drain when clutch depressed
You are quite right that the car should start in gear if the clutch pedal is depressed but you're asking a question about your "tuned up a bit" car without explaining what that means. As far as I can tell, the clutch plates are not separating by pressing down on the pedal. What are your g...

Re: Drain when clutch depressed
There are times when it is safer to park and leave cars in first gear such as on a hill. The car should start safely when you push the clutch pedal down, this car does not. You cannot start with the clutch pedal pressed. This is a large enough dip in revs to stall the car unless tuned rich.

Drain when clutch depressed
I had some work done in February to my car including the crankshaft replacement, as well as the clutch and linkage. Everything seems okay, but depressing the clutch is still causing drain, to the extent that you can't start the car unless the car is in neutral. If you depress the clutch, the battery...

Cutting out if choke on for a bit too long
I was driving with the choke fully on for a bit in error and then the car broke down and I couldn't restart. After around an hour it did start if a bit spluttery. I usually just use the choke for a few seconds on half when starting cold. Eventually after standing for a couple of hours more it was ba...

I see, I bought a replacement which has a breather hole under the cap. I'll change it over.
Thank you all.

Drilled hole in engine cap
I'm wondering why a previous owner might have drilled a hole in the engine cap. It's one of those plastic replacements. The oil pressure light does flicker sometimes and the gauge reads 0 only when the car is hot and idling - there is plenty of oil. I was wondering if this could be connected to the ...

Break light switch removal, stuck
In having trouble trying to loosen up the break light pressure switch. It seems seized up. Any kind suggestions for getting it to budge while on a working car would be very greatly appreciated.
