Re: 'Smart' motorways
I live near Manchester and it is all "smart" motorways near us. Last week on the M62 my Minor started "coughing" and there was no hard shoulder. I managed to get to the next Exit before it died, but it was terrifying. The problem turned out to be that the caps on the plugs had vi...

Minor mechanic Manchester Area
I live in North Manchester and have a 1960 Saloon. I do most of my own maintainance work on the car but I'm getting a bit old for some of the heavier stuff. Does anyone know of a mechanic / garage in my area that understands Minors.
Thanks in Advance

Re: Rear Brakes
Thanks for replying Phil, but I'm afraid that I'm even more confused. If the cylinder is bolted to the back plate how can it move?

Re: E 10 again
The Morris Minor specialist dealer where I bought my Minor told me to use Miller Oils VSPe (availaible on the internet). They swear by it. I have used it for 10000 miles sometimes filling with E5 but often E10. I have had absolutely no problems. It costs around £30 which will work for 500 litres of ...

Rear Brakes
This may be very stupid and I think that I know the answer but I want reassurance before I start stripping things off and buying new bits. I have a Minor 1000 (950) with 7 inch brake drums. When I was adjusting them recently I couldn't get them to rotate freely, there was always quite a lot of drag ...

About 150 miles / pint at more than 50 mph, about 500 miles/pint at 40 mpholiver90owner wrote: ↑Mon Jul 08, 2024 3:32 pm Crankcase pressure - losing oil through the scroll crank seal? Check for oil from the weep hole in the bell housing.
You don’t actually provide any comparison consumption figures - that might help.

Oil use
I have a 950 Saloon in good condition that I use almost every day. However, on a recent long trip I noticed that it used far more oil when fast cruising (ie 50 mph) than slow journeys (<40 mph). Anybody know why?

Re: Fuel smell
Have you checked the gasket on the petrol gauge sender unit. Mine deteriorated (they are cork I think) and I got a strong petrol smell. They are easy to replace even if it does take a while to remove the woodden boot floor covering (passenger side only). Also if you take the sender out remember whic...

Re: Brake fluid
Mmmm! This is what I feared, some people say straight swap and others say renew all the rubber components. I'm a coward so I'll just stick to changing the Dot 4 every 2 years.

Brake fluid
If I want to change to silicone brake fluid is it a straight swap ie drain old fluid, fill with silicone and bleed or do I have to change other compoonents such as rubber seals, master cylinder etc.

Rear shock absorbers
I am renewing the oil in the rear shocks, but unfortunately I cannot get the nearside shock off. Ive removed the wheel and then the two bolts that connect the shock to the mounting bracket. Ive also removed the nut that secures the lever arm to the link, but the lever arm wont slide off the link. Iv...
