Yes, well - before I heading off for spiritual guidance, I have just tried svenedin's method and it worked a treat. Thank you !

HANDBRAKE ADJUSTMENT
1970 Traveller. I have read at least four different ways of adjusting the handbrake, which seems to be a thorn in the side for many. The factory workshop manual says one way, Haynes another, and at least a couple of other methods can be found on this forum. So I am about to try a slightly different ...

Re: Breather hoses
Many thanks for this svenedin. However . . . on looking closer I find I have the pipe connector on the carburettor as well, as shown in your photo. So, where do I go from here? As I understand it, the 'chimney' connects to the carb or the inlet manifold, but presumably not both. I have put a pipe on...

Breather hoses
Advice on connecting breather hoses please. On my 1970 1000 Traveller I have a hose connector on the inlet manifold, a canister on the tappet cover and a pipe connector on the air cleaner. These are shown in the photo. How should they be connected please? Many thanks.

Heater valve spacer?
1970 1000 Traveller. There is a gasket-shaped steel spacer between the aluminium heater valve and the cylinder head. In the gasket set there is one paper gasket only. If the spacer is supposed to be there, I would have expected two gaskets. All advice greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Blown head gasket
What about one of these which the seller describes as the best composite gasket on the market, but that stops short of saying it IS the best gasket!? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/186978510533?_skw=composite+performance+head+gasket+mini+1100&itmmeta=01JMMPAC1E6Z5S7M1N9JFN798C&hash=item2b88c9a6c...

Re: Blown head gasket
Many thanks for all the helpful and detailed replies. I have spoken with Minispares who say they usually sell this even better gasket by Victor Reinz, but are out of stock https://www.minispares.com/gug702506vr-victor-reinz-small-bore-head-gasket. So I think I will do the best I can with the Minispa...

Blown head gasket
The head gasket of my standard 1098 Traveller 1970 has blown between cylinders 3 & 4. I am planning to have the head lightly skimmed to ensure it's flat, fit a new gasket and correctly torque up the head. I will do whatever is necessary to the valves while the head is off. Is there anything else...

Steering rack oil capacity
1970 1000 Traveller. One of the bellows on the rack has split allowing the oil to escape. After replacing (both) bellows, how much EP90 is needed to refill the rack? Many thanks.

Re: Door locating peg and socket misalignment
Thanks Kenny, but I am glad I won't lose the screws! The main problem is that the socket can't adjust up and down, only side to side. I think a little surgery to the mounting is required.

Door locating peg and socket misalignment
I originally posted this on the Mechanical Forum but as there have been no replies I think I put it in the wrong forum so am re-posting here. The peg is much lower than the socket on the passenger door of my 1970 Traveller. The driver's side is fine. Everything else on the passenger side is in align...

Door locating plate and socket misalignment
The peg is much lower than the socket on the passenger door of my 1970 Traveller. The driver's side is fine. Everything else on the passenger side is in alignment - catch, striker plate, fit in aperture etc. The door closes nicely except for the peg hitting the bottom edge of the socket. There is no...

Re: New springs longer than old ones
Many thanks to all who responded with rear spring advice. Happy to report that new ESM springs fitted without difficulty, except for having to make the front pins fit the hole in the plate which I did on the bench before starting the job. Now ride height correct and the springs and bump stops are no...
