Re: Misaligned bonnet

I did notice the longer threads around the wiper box when I compared it to another (later) car, however I think that because my car is an early '64 it's still using '63 wiper gear, as these were the blades and arms that were present when I bought it. I had initilly bought a 64 wiper blade but had to...

Re: Misaligned bonnet

Thanks for the input everyone. The fit of the bonnet isn’t really my primary concern, I just want to make sure I can access the engine bay without damaging my wiper mechanism. I suppose I could file down the edge of the arm till it fits to avoid moving the hinges? The hardware all seems in relativel...

Misaligned bonnet

Hi all Since I’ve had Percy his Bonney has always been a little misaligned, not a problem really, only a minor (heh) cosmetic issue. This was until I changed my wiper blade arm for a new one. It seems to be marginally taller at the base than the old one, and this resulted in the bonnet catching it a...

Re: Lurching under acceleration and dying when approaching junctions

I watched your videos. Looks fine to me. You can use the lifting pin on the HS2 carburettor to do this. You don't need to use a screwdriver. This test shows that the jet is centred and the needle is not bent. You won't see the jet moving. What you are seeing in your video is the piston with the nee...

Re: Lurching under acceleration and dying when approaching junctions

So you are going to change the jet with the carburettor on the car? Having just done this I can tell you it is not an easy job. I really would do the lift the piston and listen for a clunk test before you launch into something that may be unnecessary. Changing the jet (you do mean jet and not needl...

Re: Lurching under acceleration and dying when approaching junctions

Thanks for all your replies and tips, greatly appreciated! I'll get a chance to check the spark plugs once the new ones arrive. I did check the dashpot, there is oil in it. It's pretty thick (by my never-seen-dashpot-oil eye) with a loud squelch when I pull the plunger out. It's not all the way up t...

Lurching under acceleration and dying when approaching junctions

So Percy has had his first illness! Classic cars, to be expected. It all began when I tried to adjust the mixture in the carb as it was running a little rich. After a while, the lurching started, only really when throttle is applied, almost like the car is gasping. It's happened at 45mph and 25mph, ...

New Owner, finally

(A new thread from my original in the young owner's section) Just got back from viewing a car... which I've decided to purchase! I've attached some photos of it. I'm officially a Morris Minor Owner :) https://i.imgur.com/jUazbJC.jpg https://i.imgur.com/y364aG3.jpg https://i.imgur.com/Mt1vgrs.jpg htt...

Re: Hello :)

Thanks for the tips Rocco. That rust stuff does look interesting. I found this tine of Hammerite underbody with added waxoyl that looks good https://www.halfords.com/motoring/paints-and-body-repair/rust-removal-and-treatment/hammerite-underbody-seal-500ml-412460.html if anyone's used it before. Re: Hello :)

Been a while since I updated the forum on my Minor plans, so I'll stick a wee message in here. I'm going to see a car on saturday, namely this one: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/688172472902202?hoisted=false&ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post&tracking=...

Re: Hello :)

Thanks for the tips Montysdad. In truth, the fact that the car is so simple and easy to fix is pet of what attracted me in the first place. Since I can remember I’ve wanted to fix up an old vehicle, but my parents were never too keen to take that plunge with me, understandably. But I’m really lookin...

Re: Hello :)

I've just rung round a few insurance companies, and I thought I'd post my valuations in case any other young drivers are looking at insurance estimates. Obviously they'll change, but a I would have liked to see a ballpark figure myself when I joined. I don't have a car yet unfortunately, so the vehi...

Re: Hello :)

The blue 1970 2 door does look pretty good. The seat colour does not match the rest of the interior but that could always be changed. Really it's hard to judge because you need to have a look under the car as well. I am not up to date with what fair prices are currently. You may find this page usef...

Re: Hello :)

--Update-- After a bit of research, based on my location and budget I've come across these 3 examples. I was wondering what you with the knowledge thought of them? By my (unexperienced) eye, the blue 1970 one seems most attractive, but the 1961 is closer to me and the maroon 2 door is cheaper. What ...

Re: Hello :)

Thanks for all the tips, esppecailly your advice svenedin. Swapping the seats isn't something I'm firm on, I'll wait to see what the real things are like, but I am aware of the fact that I'll be driving a 60 year old car in modern traffic, and that safety has come a long way in 30 years. Even if I w...

Re: Hello :)

Thank you all for the warm welcome! Great to hear from another from round here :) I don't have a particular car in mind, but I'm on the lookout for a Minor 1000 2 door saloon, as it'll be my daily driver. I do also have some modifications in mind, nothing drastic don't worry! On my list at the minut...

Hello :)

Hello there! I'm ddoherty958 from Northern Ireland, just joined the forum with the view to get a Minor as first car! I've been lurking for a few days, reading up on the branches, what to look for, discounted insurance rates through FJ and the club, and taking a look on websites for cars for sale nea...
