Hi

The 948 and 1098 gear levers are different. If you use the 1098 box with the 948 lever, it's a long reach between 1st and 2nd. Get a 1098 lever and the problem will dissapear.

Hi

The introduction point of the 25D distributor on the 948 (Chassis No & month) is in Ray Newells "original Morris Minor". Can't find my copy at the moment , but I think its around Mar '62.

Hi The 12G295 head is the same depth as the rest of the A Series I've seen (2.75"). If yours is 2.625 it's had 125 thou skimmed off it which would take the combustion volume down to around the same as the 950's (23cc) What sort of cranking pressure does it give ? I took 60 thou off a 295 head o...

Harmonic Balancer

Hi Some time ago I asked how much should be skimmed of the 12G 295 head and Willie came to the rescue (He's a real mine of practical information and has been a treasure to this message board in all it's formats) I skimmed the head 60 tho and checked the combustion chamber volumes - they are spot on ...

Hi

Just a thought - is the brake pipe and connector both the same type?
(either single or double flare)

I've seen a car recently that leaked fluid, and found that the connector had been replaced with a single flare type.

Willie Thank you - you are a real treasure!! Where did you get the figures from? I think the CR's you quote might be for flat top pistons like the Mini Coopers and later AH Sprites & MG Midgets which used the 12G295 head. I did consider using these pistons, but I thnk that they used different ro...

Hi Interesting to read from Peetee that 60 thou skimmed off the head brought the CR up acceptably. Here in NZ gasoline is 91RON (about 87 MON). I think I'll get the head skimmed but don't want to go much higher than the Std CR for the 1098. The chambers on the modified head that cracked look around ...

12 G 295 Cylinder Head

Hi My little 1098 Minor has given me a fantastic run for the last 6 years. Although when I was thinking of buying it I was a little put off by the engine mod's (It's got a Vizard style modified head, Marina Manifold, 1.5" SU Carb and slightly modified exhaust.) it's got plenty of torque, gives ...
