Re: Hot start problem - 1953 Series II

Thanks everyone. The bolts have non captive nuts accessible from just above the parcel shelf and I've managed to fit the new unit without any real trouble. Once it was off I could see that the centre HT socket on the old unit was pretty cruddy so there must be a chance that was the source of my prob...

Re: Hot start problem - 1953 Series II

Point taken! Only hesitation I have is that I can't figure out whether the coil clamp has captive nuts. It's fitted to the bulkhead and I don't seem to be able to get into the cavity to check. Guess I'll just have to take my chances. Hopefully the spare coil is a good one - it came from ESM.

Re: Hot start problem - 1953 Series II

Interesting. The first time it happend I looked at the electrical side first. There seemed to be no spark at the plug so I checked again and the second time it was good. The plugs are good quality and new and the colour is as expected - very slightly on the rich side. All routine servicing has been ...

Hot start problem - 1953 Series II

I have had a problem a couple of times recently and wonder if anyone has ideas on what might cause/ solve it. On a hot day after a 20 mile or so run I stop (to fill up or call in somewhere) for about 10 minutes. The car will not restart. It is pretty hot under the bonnet and I have to wait for 20 mi...

Series II windscreen wiper

How do I remove the wiper arms on my 1953 series 2 ? I can't see any release clips so do I have to undo one of the nuts at the base of the arm? Any advice welcome! I actually want to get the arms off so that I can realign the wiper blades to optimise their coverage.

Re: Tuning/ Setup

Thanks for the reassurance. Just been out and it seemed less intrusive now that I know a bit more! The diff oil was checked on PDI a couple of weeks back but when it stops raining I'll give it another check.

Re: Tuning/ Setup

Thanks again Stephen. I've noticed a variety of things on offer so I'll keep trying to make sense of the options. Probably go for a combination of under carpet, bulkhead and boot lining maybe using some of that modern self adhesive sound/ heat insulation stuff. Hope your tinnitus doesn't get too bad...

Re: Tuning/ Setup

Thanks Stephen. "Gladys" had an alternator fitted when the engine was swapped but I guess the same applies more or less re: idle setup. The noise may be normal I suppose - I have nothing to compare with. I have noticed that there is little or no visible sound insulation in boot/ under bonn...

Re: Tuning/ Setup

Just noticed that my post had a typo. It said drive chain but it should have said drive train! Sorry for the confusion.

Re: Tuning/ Setup

Thanks svenedin. The noise is not engine but probably whining from the drive chain - i.e. probably prop/ diff. The air filter/ plugs etc are new and the ignition has just been converted to electronic. I personally have a pretty poor record with carb adjustment on my bikes and cars so I would still l...

Tuning/ Setup

I've recently bought a Series II - my first Morris Minor - it is great but I would like to find somebody near me who has expertise in optimising the running of the car. It goes very well but seems to have a rather high tick-over, maybe runs a bit rich (sooty exhaust) and is unexpectedly noisy, seemi...
