Re: Number plate light

My thinking was maybe the blade fuses are more readily available than the glass type? If I don’t have to rewire it I’ll leave it as is! Thanks!

Re: Number plate light

So it turns out it was a blown fuse. Inline fuse under the voltage regulator. Is it ok to rewire this for a newer blade style fuse holder?

Number plate light

I got a new number plate light & im wondering which wire goes where? Does the black or red or go the middle connection? Thanks. I’ve tried it both ways but it doesn’t work. So I’ll have to investigate further. The previous light worked before I changed it but the glass was broken & corroded ...

Re: Fuel pump

Ok folks thanks for your feedback. I think my preference will be the points type. Purely for the reasons they can be worked on at the side of the road if needs be. Sometimes it’s hard to beat the old ways of doing things!

Fuel pump

Going to purchase a new fuel pump. I’ve noticed a few different choices. Electronic or points. Which is better? & if you currently have one with points can you easily switch to electronic?

Re: Top trunnion nut

Ok thanks! I tightened it as much as I’d dare, before the rubber bushing is completely squashed.

Top trunnion nut

Can anyone tell me how tight to tighten to top trunnion nut after replacing the bushes? Is there a torque setting or a rule of thumb ? Thanks

Re: Manifold heatshield

Thanks. I couldn’t find any online. I have found the leak, it was a broken gasket on the floatbowl. But as a precaution for any further unexpected leaks I thought a heatshield be a good idea.

Manifold heatshield

Has anyone fabricated an exhaust manifold heatshield in the engine bay? I’ve noticed a ‘weep’ from my carburettor & want to either buy or fabricate a heatshield in case of any future leaks & prevent a fire.

Are there any on the market or is it a custom job?

Re: Wider wheels

I think the wider wheels look great. So I’ll make a decision once I get all the other jobs sorted. Wheels should be the last thing on my list 😅

Re: Wider wheels

I never thought of increased fuel consumption. Is that because of the increase in rolling resistance? I’ve seen the silver ones on a few commercials & they look great.

Wider wheels

Thinking of purchasing some 5.5x14 wheels from JBW for my convertible & just wondered what the downsides, If any, would be? Wider wheels slightly heavier steering but give a more planted feel & better grip in the wet I would say. What do you guys think? Keep them standard or opt for the 5.5x...

Re: Convertible hood

I’ll have to do some more research then if it was a standard colour option. I think the pear grey looks nice on a blue car which mine is. The off white gets dirty easily & I’m personally not a fan of the brown tan colour. Or I could go all out & put a maroon top on it & change the interi...

Convertible hood

I’m looking for a new hood for my convertible. Though I only ever see the standard colours like white, tan, maroon etc.

But I came across a car for sale which had a pearl grey canvas roof on it which looked really good. Does anyone know where I can purchase a colour like that? Thanks

Waterproof covers

Hi all. Any recommendations for a waterproof cover as I have to store my car outside for a few months. I don’t want to buy anything cheap. So something middle of the road between £60-100 would be reasonable?

Thanks

Re: Clutch question

Another thing I just note is that there is very little free travel in the pedal between foot to the floor & the clutch biting. It’s extremely short travel compared to my other cars & also my other minor saloon.

Could this also be cause of snatchy clutch?

Re: Clutch question

The car was parked for 4 years roughly. I’ve done a good bit of work getting it back on the road & I’ve just started using it for my short commute to work. I only take it to work maybe 2-3 times per week when the weathers nice. I’ll take it a good long drive someday & see if it gets better w...

Clutch question

Just started driving my aunts convertible that she’d had parked up for a good few years but I’ve noticed the clutch is very snatchy when setting off. Is that the release bearing? As I can sometimes here it squealing in reverse. I’m wondering do I buy a new release bearing or buy a whole clutch kit? ...
