Re: Front Supsension NOVICE advice needed
Whilst agreeing in principle, most owners probably started knowing very little about the mechanics of their Minors, but with time and guidance have (or can) become perfectly proficient in maintaining their cars. If direct supervision is not available, then the ideal would be to do the work and then...

Bought. Thanks for the recommendation - I shall look forward to reading that over Christmas, along with a mince pie and a glass of whisky. Thanks very much for the inspiration Philip!

Re: How much fun?!?!??
Great snow memories indeed! I absolutely love Scotland but haven't driven enough there to have an opinion, and only then in a hire car, not anything fun. I've used my feet more than a car :) I don't much fancy the Moggy on the road to Applecross. I must say I've been impressed with how reliable Alfr...

Re: How much fun?!?!??
As a teenager (years ago!) when we used to get real snow my mate and myself used this massive empty pub car park for 'snow practice' Did about 40 miles in it doing all sorts but I am convinced the experience taught us both an awful lot about driving in the snow. Most drivers these days haven't got ...

Re: How much fun?!?!??
Oh I'd love to hear more of these stories! Very true, that we don't get proper snow anymore. When I was 18 I was trying to get the back end of my mini (original 1275GT) out on a small roundabout, not noticing the police car that had seen! Fortunately, I worked for a pizza company at the time and we ...

How much fun?!?!??
Today I had my first experience of driving Alfred, my Traveller, in the snow. I purposely set off for the countryside and found a lovely lane where the snow was packed down, but it was the hill at the end that was the best bit. Spinning my way up it in third gear, never having to stop and making it ...

Hinges! Now that's a good idea. See - I'm not very creative so some thoughts like this are really useful, thank you.

Today's project - fitting a dash panel
I've bought a bit of MDF as I want to relocate the voltmeter and oil pressure gauges, fitted by a previous owner, and add a clock, into a new panel in the driver's side glovebox. My question is; how to secure the MDF panel please? My current plan is to use small l-shaped metal brackets and screw thr...

Re: Thank you..
I agree, and second all of that. My first year with a classic car has been very challenging, but not half as much as it would've been without this forum and people's contributions.

Re: Alfred's First Winter Outside
It's difficult to compare different finishes with other wood as all woods have different characteristics and, ironically, ash isn't the best for outside use. Let's be honest; we'd probably use oak if we could! I did mine this year with the old Sikkens HLS undercoat and Sikkens Filter 7 overcoat. Sti...

Re: Warming up a Moggie in icy weather.
I'd read the same about not letting it warm up while stationary. My Traveller is my first as well and it's outside on the drive! Second time starting isn't unusual but then I leave the choke out until I know I have a good stretch of driving ahead that won't need me to stop. i.e. the lights at the en...

That's brilliant, thank you. I understand that so it at least gives me a logical way forward. Just hoping I don't have to take the headlining down but whichever wire is failing, I suspect I'm going to have to....

Traveller Internal Light Help
My '68 Traveller has the courtesy light, which would be great with the shorter days at this time of year. However, it don't work. Opened it up and no bulb. Fitted a bulb but still doesn't work, in any position with door opened or closed, with ignition on and engine running. Before I start taking dow...

Re: Alfred's First Winter Outside
Thank you and yes, I agree. Having owned him for a while I wish I'd held out for a 4 door saloon. Though, to be fair, the Cuprinol and Sikkens are doing a cracking job, plus I trimmed all gaps with Sikaflex. But ultimately you're right and nothing really evaporates at this time of year. Thanks for t...

Re: Alfred's First Winter Outside
Gender what??!! I hope we don't get any of that nonsense in this forum.... It's funny, because when I first bought it I said to the wife that it should have a boy's name because girls are more trouble, but actually Alfred has caused me more than a few headaches! Partly through keeping him outside so...

Alfred's First Winter Outside
Hello all, my first winter with Alfred, my Traveller, outside and I'm looking for tips to look after the bodywork and chrome. He's now watertight and the underneath is well protected. I refurbished the wood in June. But what about caring for the chrome and paintwork? Just polish for the paint and so...
