Re: Loss of lights

It is common on older cars for the fuses themselves to be OK but the fusebox to be dirty and corroded so that electrical faults like this occur. All the items you mention do indeed have power supplied by the same fuse. A new fusebox is not expensive and can be worth fitting. The in-line fuse suppli...

Not as difficult as it sounds, I replaced the loom on Sally, following the diagram in the workshop manual.
Best wishes,
Mike.
As a last resort this might be the case, but I'd like to find out why it worked one minute & not the next

The Brown Wire is the permanent Live, direct from the battery via A terminal on the Voltage Regulator.      There isn't even a wire in terminal A    Looks like I'm going to have to do some deeper investigation when it's light again tomorrow, disconnecti...

Re: Loss of lights

You've said it's the Top fuse that only has 1/2v at it. This was the reading from the AA man's tester, mine at home shows zero voltage The Brown Wire is the permanent Live, direct from the battery via A terminal on the Voltage Regulator. One of the White wires comes from the Ign Sw, and the other 2...

Re: Loss of lights

I had another look & the top fuse definitely has no supply voltage, without my workshop manual I'm a bit stuck.
The black feed cable I've outlined is 'dead' & I need to know where the other end would be.

Re: Loss of lights

Hi, I take it you've already tried removing, cleaning up and then replacing the relevant earths? Best wishes, Mike. Although not impossible, the chances of multiple earths on all points of the car to fail at the same time I would have thought would be slim It is common on older cars for the fuses t...

Re: Loss of lights

It really does help to have a Workshop Manual ..... The language used can sometimes mislead too. ...both were intact & the bottom one had 12v , whereas the top one only carried 1/2 a volt. When you say that do you mean you measured across the fuse, one end top the other, or were you going from ...

Loss of lights

Whilst out today my indicators failed, I pulled over to check for problems & found the brake lights & wipers were also not working. As it happens, a friendly AA man was filling up at the petrol station I pulled into. Between us we managed to diagnose sod all except yes, they aren't working. ...

I think the stuff you mean is Correx https://www.corplex.com/plastic-sheets-material/correx-fluted-structure/ Good stuff but may not be the best for door cards. I'm sure correx is the corrugated stuff? The sheets mentioned above are light a halfweight acrylic sheet which is much more rigid , more o...

Re: Door cards

I do not know what the material is called but the shop I was working in replaced their signage. The old signage was made from a thin open celled plastic sheet. It was very easy to cut, waterproof and light. I made replacements for the rear cards in my Traveller. I expect a shop signage company woul...

I'm looking to redo my door cards as there is a lot of warping . What's the best material for the new cards? ply, hardboard, something else? Also is it just a case of peeling back the vinyl, getting as good a template as possible from the old backing , cut out & drill accordingly & glue viny...

Have tried PM'ing you trimpex, but it's sitting in my outbox, so I don't know if you've got it. If you still have the paperwork, I'd love it, as I now own the car! Last active 2 1/2 years ago & only 2 posts, I'd guess they aren't coming back unfortunately. I do know that when I used to moderate...

Thanks for the replies. At £50 to possibly find out the original key number which still might not be right due to already being changed, it would be cheaper to buy new locks  Not sure if there are any garages locally that are proper old school. Looks like I’ll be stripping the locks out then . ...

hello & a key issue

Hello , new to the forum having just taken delivery of my first moggy. A 1956 splitty called Mabel. There's a few issues need ironing out (not least 50 yrs of electrical bodgings) but my main problem atm is keys. She came with an ignition key but no door or boot key. Is there any way of knowing what...
