Re: 1965 Four Door - sympathetic resto

Don't get despondent - they are always worse than you think. Unbreakable rule of car restoration.
That is what makes Minors such great little cars to work on. Everything available cheaply and quick; that takes a lot of the hard work out of it.
And don't forget - you are enjoying yourself!

Re: Narrow gutted

I think Uncle Bill got it spot on. To me one of the most attractive features of a Minor is the vast expanse of the interior when compared to its competitors such as the Austin A30 and Standard 8/10.

Re: What do you want me to tell you?

🤣 Emphasising ppl who buy Minor's, then realise no plush seats, heating, de-mister,no servo brakes, cruise control,ABS, USB sockets and cup holders.... What's that button to the left of the clutch pedal & that switch under the dash...?🤣 I had a guy this morning, came to buy my Series II. Spent 10...

Re: Fuel Gauge on Negative earth MM

Not done this so far on a Morris Minor, but on my beloved Riley RMs with similar gauges there is no need to reverse the fuel gauge connections when changing polarity.

Re: Electronic distributors

Are you suggesting they are unreliable? I am suggesting that reliable or not, they are unfixable when giving problems. The original system is fixable when giving problems. That is why I stick to the Lord of Darkness equipment, given that I have stocks of real Lucas components, or purchase from The ...

Re: Electronic distributors

I suggest you revert to the original Lucas distributor and standard points set up and see how the engine performs. You can then decide if there is any benefit in these "upgrades". Personally I like to keep things simple and as designed. Many will disagree. Many won't. Electronic ignition ...

Re: Change thermostat/heater pipe head bolts

I might be talking out of my expletive deleted, but my failing memory tells me that I have in the past seen such an arrangement whereby the head nut remained in torque doing its job nicely, with the addition of an additional nut above it, the pipe lugs being sandwiched between the two nuts. In fact ...

Re: Upgrading - can it be this easy?

OK - I can rest assured that I would find a 948 just as useable as a 1098. Great. Once the Riley has gone I will pounce.
Don't forget to send me your names and addresses in case I have to sue.

Re: Upgrading - can it be this easy?

Thanks Stephen. I have owned both in the past. I just think the 1098 is slightly more versatile given that my regular routes involve stretches of smart motorway.

Upgrading - can it be this easy?

I have had good response to my advert selling my current Riley RM, so I will hopefully be replacing her with another Morris Minor. As it will be a daily driver, I am resolved to have the colossal power input of the 1098 engine. However, as I browse adverts, I have to admit that I am drawn to some ea...

Re: BMC Main Agents

I have this interesting little booklet; the closest that I can come to dating it is the UK atlas at the rear which is dated 1960.
If anyone would like details of their original providing agent, feel free to contact me and I will look it up.

Their son still runs a motor trade business in the same area; might be worth sending him an email.
