Whats in a name

When we bought our Minor it was our 1st moggy, despite owning a whole array of BMC cars over the years, so decided to call him Monty, the name of our 1st cat, almost 50 years ago. (Tenuous link) Whilst researching through the cars history I just discovered the previous owner of 14 years called the c...

Re: Hi

You can normally be offered a selective choice of reg plate at the dealership. Presumably all other details are submitted to DVLA prior to leaving the factory. Probably no requirement for dealer to forward them the reg. The one I was looking for was sold in your county Kent Les but even after payin...

Re: Hi

Only via a Heritage certificate from the BMIHT This will have the original details on including original VRM and car / chassis numbers. A photo of the car would help as grey was a broad term for BMC eg Smoke Grey looks light blue. It could also have been repainted. That's interesting, I spent a day...

Re: Ignition or indicators

Have you tried cleaning the ignition fed fuse contacts in case it's not passing full current?

Or just fit the bulb holder with no bulb and don't connect the wire.
Don't they come with bulb holders?

Re: Ignition or indicators

Try bridging the wire at the ignition switch with a temporary jump wire. If the problem is resolved the likely the switch contacts. If still the same then back to Berni's suggestions

Re: Door safety catch

So the one Mike sent doesn't fit on 4 door. I think we have concluded incorrectly made part with wrong hole centres. With my 4 door front removed and measured properly its 38.5 same as two door. But the profile and width is different 2 or 4 door 20250718_130440.jpg 20250718_131818.jpg As someone sug...

Re: Seat belt upper mounting

This is what I did in our 4 door. It doesn't look very neat as I haven't got round to covering the bracket in headlining material for the past 15 years!!! It uses the existing mounting holes and I like it as it would not be able to swivel under high load as it could do with just the one mounting po...

85 and 86 are the coil of the relay one to earth and one to switched supply, either way around works. Or put supply to one and switch the other to earth. 87 will have an output when coil energised (relay activated) 87a will have an output when relay coil is not energised (relay at rest) Hope this he...

Re: Seat belt upper mounting

Yes I think that maybe too low but also didn’t know there was a lower hole, is that standard on all 4 door. If so I could hold it in that position to try before putting a hole in the trim, if it still is uncomfortable, but haven't driven yet with the new mounting position. Yes, see the Morris/BMC W...

Re: Clutch rattle and slowing engine

My modern, a mitsubishi, actually increases its idle speed, via the ecm when you press the clutch pedal. You also have to press the clutch to make the start work instead of a neutral start inhibitor. As oliver90 says if you apply engine load, by disengaging the clutch, when you have a fixed idle and...

I have seen the light

No not a religious experience
Having had the big bugs eyes (spot lamps) on the moggy for a while I decide they were too big.
I found some nos fog and spot from the 60s more in keeping so have swapped them.
