Re: Steering column pinch bolt problem
Thanks for the advice folks, finally sorted. Managed to get a small adjustable spanner on the shank of the bolt and by levering against the steering column and turning the bolt with a spanner it eventually came out. There wasn't much leverage but couldn't get anything bigger in there, bit of a grunt...

Re: Steering column pinch bolt problem
Thanks Phil, yes the holes seemed to be lined up ok with the groove in the spline, the bolt went all the way through just to the end of the exit hole but now refuses to go further or go back. Not sure what has happened, struggling to get the thing out now. Easy enough to turn with a spanner in eithe...

Steering column pinch bolt problem
Hi I fitted a new steering rack today and track rod ends, final bit was to replace the pinch bolt on the bottom of the column, it went a fair way in, in fact the end of it is exactly flush with the exit hole, problem is it will now go neither forwards nor backwards. It's kind of loose but with tight ...

Re: Esm rear window rubber
I did one not so long back, see post: https://board.mmoc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?t=76740 This was a late saloon/ESM rubber. One of the more awkward bits was fitting the rubber onto the screen prior to fitting as it tends to collapse a bit while you are trying to get it on. The glass handles were really...

Re: Grumpy engine steady
The bulkhead bolts used for the Grumpy's engine steady bracket are 5/16" BSF. Grind a lead in/taper on the bottom of the bolt or use a wing bolt which already has a lead in/taper on its bottom end. If you do not have a 5/16" BSF tap just file a flat on a 5/16" BSF bolt and that will ...

Grumpy engine steady
Hello, I am having a problem fitting the Grumpy engine steady that I recently bought for my 1969 saloon. Last time I had one of these was years ago when I fitted one to my van and it was no problem at all. Now, however I can't for the life of me get the bolts provided into the unused holes next to t...

Easy rear screen rubber fitting late saloon
Thought I might share this as I know a lot of people struggle dreadfully. A friend was due to help me with the job but unfortunately she was unwell and the job had to be done. Managed it on my own, 2 hours from start to finish including removing the screen and cleaning up. I already had a glazing ha...

Minors globally - where were they exported to?
I know there are a lot of Minors in the UK and Sri Lanka, also a fair few in New Zealand , Holland, some in France and the USA, but where were the main export markets? Is there any data on surviving cars abroad or are there any owners clubs in countries you might not expect? A recent post about impo...

yoghurt pot heater mod
I got this idea from an old post by bmcecosse regarding improving the heater output. He suggested removing the air intake trunk from the stub and directing it at the back of the radiator. The hose is actually a bit short but I extended it using a yoghurt pot with the bottom cut out of it. I also pul...

Re: Physical fitting of new Switches e.g for Hazards (basics)
Another option is to use the mounting point for the heater control valve, make a wider bracket that will accomodate both heater control and a switch as well. No new holes to drill in the car.

Re: Ignition light stays on when engine is tuned off!
What myoldjalopy said about the RB106 is interesting and although the OP has an alternator maybe it is wired up using the RB106 as a junction box? Mine is and I noticed that if I pressed one of the contacts down it stuck down, there was current flowing. I didn't like the idea of that so bent the con...

Re: A guide to waxoyling a Moggy?
All good tips! Really like Phil's idea of adding the master cylinder plate to the other side. One thing I also like to do is to fill a syringe with runny waxoyl and carefully run it along just under the headlining either side of the car squeezing gently as I go to protect the channel under there. On...

Re: tyre stem issue TR412/TR413
Why not just let the tyre supplier provide and fit the required valves at the same time as they fit the tyres. Would be only too happy to but no-one round here seems to have them! re: 415 being listed twice with different specs that is a bit awkward.... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/141066687360?var=0...

Re: tyre stem issue TR412/TR413
You must have early wheels as fitted upto around 1958 from memory. You just need some valves with larger diameter stems. I bought some for my car recently from Vintage Tyres who have branches at Beaulieu and at Bicester. Thanks, any idea what the code for these is? I am beginning to think TR415 but...

tyre stem issue TR412/TR413
Hi I have a couple of spare wheels for my minor which I have been refurbishing. So I was ready to have the new tyres put on and the guy tells me that the TR413 valves that I had bought were too small in diameter and would not fit properly. So I ordered a few TR412 valve stems thinking that the spare...

Re: Accelerating in space, where does it all end?
So if you could launch a Moggie into space with some kind of power source installed that would continuously cause the vehicle to accelerate at a mere 1g, ie 9.80665 m/s2 it would only take a year or so for the Moggie to near the speed of light, ie 3×10^8 ms. Oh dear I've gone and fitted that 3.9 di...

Re: tyre valve stems for late saloon
The hole in the rim for the valve is small therefore you need the tubeless valve TR413 for the small hole. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/133550986127?hash=item1f1842538f:g:oEoAAOSwLAlfjL5r&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAA8C6rtKoqVHj%2BWF4rFgVC0Zxav9W%2FURIrd1mZ7kP1JWXEiCTZz9rSRrE%2FHgXNeowMRXk2rUnnT0VdI78rKM...
