Re: Manifold flange thickness

Thanks for the advice. Additional gasket material seems to be the easy answer.

Manifold flange thickness

Having tracked down an elusive carburettor problem (fast unadjustable tickover, stalling at junctions, uneven plug colour etc) to a leaking inlet manifold gasket, I bought an new gasket and installed it. I know from fitting it all originally many years ago that the thickness of the flanges on the in...

Thanks for the update. It would be helpful to have a link to that effect. Is this part of the MMOC website now defunct?

Re: Register your car / update your details!

Is the register still in use? It says it was last updated over 11 years ago. I sent a form off by email a few weeks a go, but did not get a response and wonder if the contact details are correct?

Re: HT leads

Thanks for all the advice. I think I'll stick with the black rubber coated as they seem to be closer to the originals.

HT leads

Does anyone know what type the original HT leads were on a 1952 side valve engine? The current ones are plastic coated copper cored and need replacing, but not sure to replace with the same or braided, and if the latter which colour. I have looked in Ray Newell's 'Original Morris Minor' and they all...

Re: MM radiator top hose

Thanks. It seems the John Bull catalogue listing was wrong, although the seller took some persuading as it was the first time it had been proved wrong in 30 years! However now refunded and correct one ordered from ESM.

MM radiator top hose

Following on from the need to drain my radiator, the top and bottom hoses are clearly of some age and while not leaking, are very hard and unyielding and show signs of perishing at the ends, so I anticipate having to replace them if I can ever get them off. I obtained a new old stock John Bull top h...

Re: Exhaust clamp

Thanks for the link to the ESM site for the heat shield Phil. Yes, the pipe needs to be put back in its proper clip and the advice about the insulating pipe is helpful. The car already has the heatshield for the shock absorber in place, which is further to the right.

Exhaust clamp

Having just acquired a 1952 convertible with a sidevalve engine last week and getting used to its idiosynchracies, I had a look under the bonnet and discovered the loud noise it made going up hills on the way home was due to the exhaust manifold to exhaust pipe gasket blowing. It was blowing directl...

simmitc wrote: Thu Nov 30, 2023 10:09 pm The standard answer to your question is yes, drain, flush and refill with Bluecol. Plenty of discussions about this on this forum and loads of anecdotal evidence that modern antifreeze will seep and leak leading to the deposits that you have found.
Perfect. Thank you for such a definitive answer.

Pink antifreeze

I have just acquired a 1952 MM convertible with original sidevalve engine. I noticed that the water in the radiator is pink and there seems to be some pink residue around the hose housing. I recall reading that these old cars need ethylene glycol antifreeze (blue) rather than the modern pink stuff. ...

Re: Series MM Questions

I hope this is posted in the right section; while I have had A-Series Morris Minors for nearly 40 years, I have just entered the world of MMs having also acquired a 1952 convertible with original 918cc engine and am on a steep learning curve! Are there any recommendations for spark plugs other than ...

Fleet Motor Company, Alcester, Warwickshire

I wonder if anybody can provide any information on the Fleet Motor Company of Alcester which supplied this 1952 Morris Minor MM convertible? I have done a little research and it seems they closed in 1965, but had two sites in the town, one of which remains a garage (Ross Motors) and the other is a b...

Re: Bag or bottle??

My present Minor and the previous one both received a converted chrome Pyrene fire extinguisher in place of the usual bag or bottle. Works fine and always gets positive comments at shows. 😁 A neat idea. Is it easy to plumb it in? Does the extinguisher come apart and do you need to put a bottle insi...

Re: seatbelts

You can buy seatbelts to fit made by Securon and others for about £50 per side but would probably need to fit them yourself or get a garage to do it. I have not used them yet, but Quickfit come highly recommended for seatbelts. Not the cheapest, but look to be good quality and in keeping with the ag...

Re: Tracking - too much toe in

I have read this thread with interest as I am about to replace my steering rack. All the comments are helpful and explain what needs to be done, but having seen the drawing in the workshop manual, it shows 'toe-out' which is surely wrong? The text clearly refers to 'toe-in' but the drawing shows the...

If you only paid £30 for a pair of NOS half-shafts you had an absolute bargain. :tu1: :tu1: :tu1: 😁 yes, I could not quite believe my luck! I know some people have never had a half-shaft break, but I have once and it is not something I would wish to repeat. I have a 1275 midget engine, 1.75" c...

Re: Hardening half-shafts

Thanks, yes but they are still over £550! My pocket won’t stretch to that which is why I’m looking to get my set hardened. I picked them up for £30 so there is scope for a much cheaper route.
