Re: Clutch rattle and slowing engine
This sounds very much like the problem I had on my Traveller. I have a 1275cc Midget engine fitted with the midget diaphragm clutch. Twice after only a few hundred miles the clutch started making a squealling noise and the engine slowed when the clutch pedal was depressed. I believe that this was ca...

Re: Steering Rack Gaiter failure again !.
I am helpinga friend restore his Mini. We recently discovered that almost all of the seals and bushes fitted over a year ago (and never been on the road) are perished. We have removed the rear sub frame again to replace crap rubber bushes with polyurathene. The quality of many replacement parts curr...

Re: ‘69 traveller rear corner brackets
This is difficult to measure once everything is installed in the car but I measured 11 inches exactly from the bottom of bracket to the TOP of the floor. This seems to match the measurement on your photograpgh.

Re: Front end rattle
There are several possible sources of knocking in the front suspension. Little has been said of this stream about what you have done to check your suspension. I suggest that you examine the following: 1. Check that all nuts and bolts are tight. Don't forget the front of tie rod and the nut holding t...

Re: True Speed
I would expect a 1098 Minor in good condition to be able to exceed 60mph. It will be loud and may not be a comfortable experience. (I am very anxious at the idea of doing 80 or 90mph in a 60 year old car with suspension and brakes designed 80+ years ago.) You say that your carburettor is in good ord...

Re: Engine running rough
I would start by eliminating potential ignition problems: Replace the condensor in the distributor Check the braided earth wire beteen the distributor body and the points mounting plate Check the plug leads Check coil connections Do you have the correct coil fitted? Is the coil in good condition? I ...

Re: Oil Pressure Warning Light
How does the red ignition light behave? Does it come on when the ignition is switched on and goes out when the engine is running? I wonder whether the two warning lights have been swapped in error and what you actually have is a fault with the charging circuit.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Re: Duplex timing chain fitment
Phil I don't see that is an issue. I have this fitted to my 1275 engine, A 4mm spacer gives adequate clearance for the breather and is still 40-45mm from the radiator. The engine steady and gearbox restraint should restict engine movement and prevent any contact with the radiator (in normal use at l...

Re: Duplex timing chain fitment
The fan clearance issue can be simply resolved by fitting a spacer as used on the classic mini.

Re: Drain when clutch depressed
I sounds like your clutch is not fully disengaging, causing drag which is stopping the engine from turning freely. It might be helpful is you explain what clutch and throw-out bearing is fitted to your car. Is the clutch properly adjusted? Is there sufficient free travel on the pedal? (I experienced...

Re: Floor panel applying brake when bolted down
Yes, the push rod for the brake master cylinder is out of adjustment causing the brake pedal to be too high. The adjustment is inside the rubber gaiter on the master cylinder. You need to shorten the push rod so that the pedal provides the appropriate free play with the floor screwed into place. Goo...

Re: Fitting timing chain
If you align the dots correctly then everything will be correct. Don't worry about it. My understanding is: The cylinder about to start the ignition stroke (cylinder 1) will have both valves fully closed as it reaches TDC. The opposite cylinder (cylinder 4) will be going from the exhaust to the inle...

Re: Fitting timing chain
Wth the dots adjacent to each other the cam will set the valves for firing in cylinder 1. If, in this position, the rotor arm is pointing to cylinder 4 then that suggests that the distributor d.rive is 180 degrees out.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Re: Cam/Crank timing.
Pistons 1 and 4 are both at TDC at the same time but one is at the start of its ignition/power stroke while the other is at the start of its induction stroke. Normally the sprockets are aligned with the dots together and cyl. 1 on its ignition stroke. If the timing gears are set with the dot on the ...

Re: Sorry-indicators
If you mean the (usually) cylindrical box with three connections this is the flasher unit. Note that the correct connections for this are: green on the left, light green in the centre and green and brown on the right. If connecting green and green and brown causes indicators to light then that would...

The circuit is quite straightforward: Green is the power supply from the fusebox to the flasher Green and brown takes the power from the flasher to the indicator switch Light green goes from the flasher to the warning light on the indicator arm The Indicato...

I am not sure what it is your refer to as "the relay". Minor didn't have any relays fitted at the factory. Does your car have some kind of modification by a previous owner?

Re: Front inner wing replacement
The channel is an integral part of the inner wing panel. An 1.5 inch return on the panel forms two sides of the channel with the wing forming the other side. This can be more clearly seen if you zoom in to the other pictures in the ESM page.
