Re: 1275 clutch release bearing noise

A couple of thoughts: If the fault is with the release bearing, applying light pressure of the clutch pedal will cause it to spin and you should hear the noise. If the noise is apparent when you are slipping the clutch then that might suggest problems with the clutch pressure assembly or friction pl...

Re: Wiper Problem (possibly fixed)

If you can pass a wire through the tube with a piece of rag on the end, you can pull this through and remove all the old grease.

Re: Fuse Locations

This sounds like two separate problems. Headlights and Sidelights are both powered from the brown/blue wire from the regulator to the light switch. As the side lights work, the fault must be with the switch, blue wire from the main switch to the dip switch, or the headlamp earth. The heater and wipe...

Re: Traveller Internal Light Help

Check the black cable is connected to earth. This should be attached to the car body via the bolts which join the roof panels.
I had the same problem on my traveller and ran a new earth cable down the driver side screen pillar rather than trying to access the roof bolts.

Re: Having problems adjusting the brake peddle!

I presume that you are trying to adjust the actuating rod on the master cylinder. The recommended 1 1/4 play is with the floor in place. When the floor/transmission tunnel is removed the pedal is free to rise above it's regular position. Try placing a straight edge over the pedal at floor level and ...

Re: Powerless!

I agree with the other suggestions about a proper engine service. I would also add that you should check the state of the ignition leads, distributor cap etc. I would as a matter of course replace the points and condenser. if you are concerned about the plugs you can clean them with a brass wire bru...

Re: Traveller Window Mystery

A bit of lubrication shouldn't do any harm but I would be inclined to use a silicone lubricant rather than oil. On my car there were two issues that prevented the windows from sliding. Firstly, the runners had deteriorated and needed replaced. Secondly, the opening in the wooden frame was to tight -...

Re: Traveller Window Mystery

The windows slide reasonably easily as I have replaced all of the runners. (Maybe I should have left them stuck shut!)
My car is a later model - 1965.
Yes I guess that vibrations is the likely cause.

Traveller Window Mystery

Here's an interesting puzzle.

After driving a short distance, one of the rear windows on my traveller slides forward. I clip it shut before setting off but after 2 or 3 miles the window is fully open. I intend to jam the catch closed but I can't fathom what causes this.

Any suggestions?

Re: Master cylinder

I had a fluid leak after fitting a remote reservoir with a new Lockhead cylinder. The fibre washer on the MC cap was too thin and the cap bottomed out before compressing the washer, allow fluid to spill out. The thicker washer from the original MC solved the problem.

Another question about clutch operation.

My '65 traveller is fitted with a 1275 Midget engine, standard 1098 Minor gearbox and Midget diaphragm clutch. The clutch plate/cover/thrust are all new and the mechanism has been replaced with new parts. Clutch does works okay and operation is light. However, he take up appears to be quite abrupt, ...

You haven't mentioned the points. I suggest that you fit new ones and adjust them correctly.

I would also check the static ignition timing.

Re: Blue Liquid dripping out of heater

Your leak could be a number of things: perished hoses, corroded heater matric etc. but start with the simplest first. Look under the right hand side of the dash and check that the jubilee clips holding the heater hoses onto the heater are tight. Two minutes with a screwdriver might fix the problem. ...

Re: engine and gearbox mating

I had problems too fitting the gearbox after a new B&B clutch in my 1275 midget engine. The driven clutch plate was a very tight fit on the first motion shaft - I used a file to lightly relieve the internal splines on the plate until it fitting smoothly. Check also that the spigot bearing is the...

Traveller Interior Light

The interior light in my '65 Traveller works via the door switches but not via the built in switch. The problem is that the black wire is not earthed and I cannot find where it is (or should be) connected to the body. The live feed and switch wires run down the screen pillar but the black wire does ...

Cuprinol - beware

I am in the process of refinishing the woodwork on my Morris Traveller. After painstakingly sanding it back to bare wood, I did as others have suggested and applied Cuprinol Wood Preserver (Clear) prior to re-varnishing. The Preserver sounded suitable - "for interior and exterior use prior to p...
