Re: Importing my Morris Minor to the UK

Hi Daniel, Good luck with it - I'm sure you'll figure it out? Where abouts are you? I used to love in Ra'anana and also Rishon le Zion years ago. I was tempted to import my mum's car over to the UK from Israel a few years ago, but what stopped me in the end was the bureaucracy at the Israeli end. C...

Importing my Morris Minor to the UK

Hello, I have a 1954 Morris Minor Series II, which I have owned for about three years. It is in good restored condition, and recently I had a lot of work done to it, including rebuilding the engine, overhauled electrics, new clutch, new brakes, rebuilt steering rack etc. While there is still more th...

Thanks everyone for the replies. Looks like I'll be routing the pipe wherever it's convenient.

Re: Oil pressure gauge tube routing

Hi, the early Minors had a standard oil pressure gauge, up until late 1954, I believe.

Oil pressure gauge tube routing

Hello,

I have a 1954 early Series II with an oil pressure gauge. It is LHD.

Could anyone tell me where the tube for the oil pressure gauge is supposed to go through the bulkhead? I am pretty sure mine is incorrectly routed.

Thanks,

Daniel

Re: Early Minor rear-door armrests.

Daniel - if you follow the link to the other thead provided by 'geobernie' above, you will see that I provided he measurements for the triangular brackets and the arm rests themselves. I suggest that you compare these measurements to those of your brackets/arm rests and see if they are the same. Fr...

Re: Early Minor rear-door armrests.

Hi all, Sorry to have left this thread in the air for so long; my car was off the road for a long time getting just about everything overhauled. Now it's back on the road and I'm back to working on these minor (but interesting) jobs (no pun intended). Anyway, I can confirm now that I have six holes ...

Re: Early Minor rear-door armrests.

Yes, the rounded style were the alternate ones I was thinking of - but from the picture each one appears to be secured in only two places, whereas the OP mentions six holes in his doorframe, suggesting the type he has bought - but which, apparently, don't fit! Curiouser and curiouser! This is reall...

Re: Early Minor rear-door armrests.

They look the same as the ones in my SII. But I have seen a different type of armrest, with a more rounded profile. I am not sure how these are fixed, exactly, but it could be that your car was originally fitted with these? Surely there are holes through the door panel trim where armrests were prev...

Early Minor rear-door armrests.

Hi all, I have a question about a part that I didn't even know existed until quite recently, the Series II rear-door armrests. I have a 1954 4-door LHD Series II Morris Minor. It was restored about 10 years ago, not very accurately, by the previous owner. I have owned it for about a year, and have b...

Re: Coolant leak at front of engine

Hi all, The new water pump is in, and the leak has stopped. While taking it apart, it seems that the immediate cause of the leak may really have been the bypass hose, which was knackered, but the pump itself turned out to be more worn than I thought it was; the bearings feel and sound like they are ...

Re: Coolant leak at front of engine

When I brought Basil it was about 18 years since he had been rebuilt and his engine fitted. I don't know how many miles he did in that time, but for various reasons I doubt it was more than 20,000, but I can't tell exactly since his Milometer hadn't been working for the last 5 years. Point is the s...

Re: Coolant leak at front of engine

Hi all, Thanks for replying. The upper and lower hose look fine and weren't wet. The bypass hose doesn't look great, but also isn't wet. The only place I can find that does seem wet is directly underneath the water pump, underneath the timing cover. I did read elsewhere on the forum about internal s...

Coolant leak at front of engine

Hi, My engine has developed a fairly serious coolant leak. It is at the front right, as looking from the front of the engine. It drips every few seconds onto the floor, and seems to come from somewhere behind the water pump. It only drips when the engine is running, AFAIK. I have removed the radiato...

803cc gearstick tip

Hello, One of the problems that my 1954 early series 2 has is a badly worn tip on the gear lever. The whole gear lever is apparently not original too, although it seems to fit, so, on the whole, not ideal. Anyway, I have managed to obtain a "new" gearlever, which is in much better conditio...

Re: LHD door locks

Thanks. It appears that Morris did the absolute minimum necessary to convert the cars to LHD; e.g. the bonnet release is on the right (British people constantly complain about cars with the bonnet release on the left...), and the hilarious extension rod on the accelerator pedal that operates the acc...

LHD door locks

Hi,

I have a 1954 LHD Series 2, with 4 doors.

I only have one door with an external lock, and it's on the passenger side. Is this original?

I am rather scared to lock the car with the key, because if the single almost-70-year-old lock decided to stop working, I'd be locked out :o
