Seat frame

Was autojumbleing on Saturday.
Part of my haul was an interior of a late series ii.
One of the front seats has been repaired - anyone know what the seat base donor is from?

How tight?

I’ve just taken delivery of a spare sidevalve engine, rebuilt 4 years ago but never installed - have builders receipts. I’ve pulled the head and it’s looking okay, evidence of rebore on the cylinders, new valves and pistons plus head, sump, timing cover gaskets are new and coated in assembly lube. H...

Technically yes

Would you ever notice it in the scale of a human lifespan: No.

Re: Thermostat housing

Maybe the OP was thinking of this, doubt this would be the case in his example. An interesting read however. https://www.allmetalsfab.com/galvanic-reaction-dissimilar-metals/ The OP is somewhat correct in his assumption that by adding brass to a system then aluminium will corrode faster. In the pre...

Re: SIDE VALVE - STICKY EXHAUST VALVE

It’s binding because of excess heat causing the valve stem to expand in the hot exhaust gas. I’ve noticed that the dreaded E10 gas causes my engine to run slightly hotter. I spoke with an older guy at work who used to be a chief engineer in the merchant navy (and what he don’t know about fuel and bu...

If you want an old quality ‘proper mans’ torch get a FULTON MX991 right angle (also known as NATO torch) with a LED conversion kit. Stands on its heel, side flat, side 45 deg, back straight up, clip in pocket or hangs perfectly perpendicular by a hook, dosent roll away, waterproof o-rings and switch...

Scratting through paperwork found these and paperwork, MOTs and tax discs 1974 to 1999. If anyone knows current whereabouts I’d happily forward on to new owner.

Of course language changes, it’s alive. If it didn’t you’d be sitting there on your keyboard writing in Norman French.

Re: Series MM side valve oil pumps

It’s okay if the USHM2 block has been modified to have an external filter, otherwise fitting an USHM3 pump to an USHM2 engine will leave the engine with no oil filtration! What you have looks like an USHM2 pump (or military generator/ marine engine). The USHM3 has quite a different body and pickup. ...

Re: The awful joke thread

This man goes into a bar with his pet monkey. He buys a pint for himself and a bag of chips (crisps) for the monkey. Well, the monkey finishes its bag of chips, gets bored and starts monkeying about. It jumps on the bar, sees a jar of olives so sticks his hand in, gets a handful and stuffs it into h...

Re: Which is the exact model in the attached picture?

I concur with myoldjalopy and geoberni but if pushed I would say it’s a series MM as it has the teeny weeny 1” ID tailpipe that my MM has and always looks too small for the car. Other opinions are available.

Re: Hardened valves

Ask the machine shop to cut the hardened seats to suit. You usually supply an exhaust valve to them if they aren’t supplying new valves so they can determine the angle. It costs next to nothing.

Re: BRITOOL sockets

Anyone got an opinion of TENG ?

I found a US company that ships to Canada for free. They have Whitworth combination spanners, have good online reviews, but they seem suspiciously cheap.

Go for it or walk away?

Good question and I don’t know but further to King Kenny there is a lot of aluminium to water surface area on the USHM3 engines with the thermostat housing, water jacket / dynamo bracket and block drain valve housing.

Why not LED bulbs. These are a game changer on prewar minors with 6v systems.

BRITOOL sockets

What has happened to Britool sockets? I’ve had the need to add Whitworth sizes to my tool set as sockets and a few ring spanners. I thought I’d treat myself so I bought a set of Hallmark-Britool sockets. What a shile of pite! Despite costing over £100 they looked and felt no different to cheepo unbr...

It’s the automotive equivalent of drag. Not for me but there’ll be someone out there that will find it attractive.

Might be a good project to turn it back into a bog standard series 2
