Checking over a 1098 short engine

I've got hold of another engine and have been told it was reconditioned and ran fine, but I think I'll take the sump off and have a look before doing anything else.
The head is already off.
What do I need to check?

Also it came without push rods.
TIA.

Rear view mirror

The plastic edging has all gone brittle exposing the glass edges, has anybody covered the edges with any piping or something else.
They're not in stock at the moment and having had my head smash into one years back thought I'd better sort it.

Re: Removing bulb holders from the rear light unit?

Thing is the bulb holders look like there sealed to unit, I thought they would have pushed out somehow.
So in the past would owners have to buy the whole unit?
