WHATS THIS PIPE?
Took a look under bonnet after car would not start. Discovered this thin metal pipe not connected to the carb. Pushed the metal pipe into a fiberous tube attached to the carb and car started. What is the pipe and its purpose and is it unusual for it to come apart ?

LOCAL FRIENDLY MOGGIE GARAGE
Anyone know of a friendly moggie garage in Bournemouth area, where my moggie is kept, for servicing and running repairs etc ?
Tried Dorset branch without response. Thanks

MOT
Thought I would get an MOT on my 1960 Morris. Garage said I might not want to do that with a historic exempt car as once one gets a registered MOT for an exempt car thereafter one will need to get one every year, like a younger car. It was suggested that I get a "pre MOT check", documented...

REPLACEMENT EXHAUST SYSTEM
My current very old exhaust needs replacing (rusted and a hole in the box). the engine is 1098cc. Is there an advantage in upgrading to a large bore system and is it easy to fit ? Why are some standard systems being sold as a single box version or two box version(extra cost). The current system is a...

DISTRIBUTOR INDUCTIVE DISCHARGE UNIT
My motorcyclist friends have suggested rather than looking at complete electronic ignition, try an Inductive Discharge Unit, such as fitted to a lot of motorcycles. Apparently, very easy to fit into the existing electrical circuit. Gives reduced sparking at the points and as such an extended points ...

MOT from 1st April 2021
If it is not already planned in the monthly mag. how about an explanation/clarification of the new additions to the MOT. I understand that they relate to number plates, repairs to hydraulic lines, lighting, etc particularly the relevance to our older cars, and importantly aftermarket upgrades and al...

Re: STRONG MAGNET/DASHBOARD
I found a better solution - non-permanent, double-sided tape. It's clear and 1mm thick and very strong. Easy to remove without marking paint and it is reusable too. Found on eBay £2.15 for 1meter x 12mm. Just the job

STRONG MAGNET/DASHBOARD
Rather than using double-sided tape to affix things on the dashboard, I am thinking of using a magnet(s) . Neodymium magnets are VERY strong (for example 10mm x 1mm will support 2kilos) . Will such strong fields have an adverse effect on any equipment behind the dash. up to 600cm away ? I think not,...

Re: Duckhams classic fuel additive or valvemaster
Since starting this post (Ethanol Changes) in October I am now giving Esso petrol a go. Maybe a few pence dearer but it saves messing around with additives. See extract below : Quote: Our Synergy Supreme+ 99 petrol has more cleaning power than our regular petrol – and includes molecules whose job it...

ETHANOL CHANGES
We have been reading about the proposals to increase Ethanol to 10% or more in our petrol and its negative effects on components. Does anyone have views or experience of the various products out there that claim to negate the effects? I am thinking of ; 1) Esso Synergy Super Unleaded fuel which alth...

FIRST STARTUP AFTER LOCKDOWN
Due to lockdown I have not started/run the old Morris for nearly 4 months.Putting aside whether the battery is up to it, is there any benefit in turning over the engine with the handle(ignition off) to get some oil circulated before I even try to start on the battery ? Any other tips/suggestions wel...

FLATISH BATTERY START
My car (1960) is safely locked in an underground garage with a very steep ramp up to the road and no electricity supply. However, I will not be able to get to the car(100 miles away) until the current lockdown is over and the car has already stood idle for 6 weeks. All the electricals are switched o...

My 1960 Minor 1000 does not have the under dash shelf so storage is scarce. Does anyone know if one can buy side pockets to fix to the front doors or alternatively something that fits over the transmission tunnel to stash bits and pieces ?

Re: Rear indicators and hazzard lights not working
Mine is a 1960 model and has the door indicators bypassed to the rear/front lamp cluster. The wire that came adrift in the offside rear lamp shorted the lower of two fuses which took out wipers, fuel gauge etc having got the other components working after 2 blown fuses I was just left with the rear ...

Re: PETROL
Thanks for your observations. No clear answer though. I run my MGF and BMW on VPower and think they run smoother in suburban driving and a very slight improvement in mpg.VPower is 97 RON compared to Standard 95 RON. Dont know about Ethanol content and its reported bad effects on components(rubber/pla...

PETROL
Is there any benefit in using Shell VPower as opposed to standard Shell ? VPower claims to protect and lubricate and give better performance. Although it is more expensive, annual mileage is low so is it worth putting it(or any other premium brand) in our old cars ?

Re: Rear indicators and hazzard lights not working
After a garage could not resolve I took the light fitting apart and found a soldered wire had come adrift from its "o" clip. New fuse fitted and now all working. Thanks
