Feel free to leave the oil in there forever Phil.
I will continue to change it. I only quoted Morris Motors own recommendation. What did they know?
It may well be millions of years old but I suspect adding some crude, without refining, to the gearbox might not end well.

Re: Oil
Morris Motors, in their lubrication chart, recommend a gearbox oil change every 6000 miles. That was using Castrol XL,straight S.A.E. 30, though.

"They are " seeking expert knowledge".."
Hence my scepticism. I think we all know what so- called "experts" are like.

Would you buy a used car off him?

I wonder what they are up to? Is there an ulterior motive behind this?

Re: Fitting new drop links - what am I doing wrong?!
Yes, I remember that discussion. Having checked the workshop manual, sections I and L, there's no mention of anything about changes dimensions/sizes. It does specify "All models" for both sections. The only modification, written therein, is with reference to the damper internals and a thic...

Re: Fitting new drop links - what am I doing wrong?!
I would expect you have compared new to old, but for reference, I have measured the tapered section on a droplink that was removed from my car - metric measurements. Length of taper 12mm, large diameter 12.2mm, small diameter 10.6mm. Their recent replacements are the same size. Unless Armstrong chan...

Remove the Ethanol, I do. Not really much of a hassle for the amount of fuel a lawnmower's, or other Petrol powered garden tool, uses.

Yes, that's an aftermarket vacuum advance unit, but it does still function.
I realise it's not intended to fall off, but the rotor arm is a very tight fit on the shaft.

Re: Rotor arms.
Sent a 25D4 off to Martin this morning for reconditioning. No, not cheap, but I suspect the old "you get what you pay for" is true. It is a "spare" so no "downtime" involved. "The distributor in the photo above is Martin's work." That's one fancy looking conde...

Re: Rotor arms.
Thanks both. I've contacted The D.D. with a view to buying his parts.
Also probably a distributor recondition.
There is no way I will use that new rotor arm.

Has this happened yet? I had to log in this morning without having previously logged out and the board is very slow in operation.
If it has - they've fixed it.

Rotor arms.
I think we are aware that the quality of aftermarket parts has deteriorated, but having just purchased a Lucas 25D rotor arm, and compared it to that it's replacing, I'm reluctant to use it. Really lighter in weight and poor finish. I'm sure it's "genuine" Lucas, it came in a Lucas box and...

Re: ignition light
Just a random question and probably not relevant. Is the car positive or negative earthed and have you bought the correct polarity item?
The positive earth probably has white and black cables. The negative earth red and black. Their connection methods are totally different.

Re: Mirrors
Probably overkill, but I have a door mirror fitted, as further up, to the trim piece forward of the quarter light. Plus two wing mirrors. I still have the parking light I purchased, probably 1970ish. Clips over the top of a closed window. Probably exactly the same as that pictured above by geoberni....

Well, if someone came up with a"law" and took various stuff, including opiates it wouldn't inspire much confidence for me.
You will note that I said "might". A suggestion rather than an instruction. Also the addition of a ? at the end.

For a comparison here is a new front brake cylinder with a new bleed nipple, fully screwed in, and a "transfer pipe" seated.

Might be an idea to disconnect the return spring using that method?Myrtles Man wrote: ↑Tue Apr 09, 2024 11:42 am Anther approach might be to hold the clutch pedal to the floor with a length of four by two (or similar) wedged up against the driver's seat.

Re: Clutch not “working
During the winter "lay up", and my car isn't out on the road, I try to excercise the clutch pedal regularly, press the footbrake pedal a few times and apply the handbrake a few times even without starting the engine. I keep the handbrake released and chock the wheels, front and rear. Not i...
