Re: Spotted today.

In Caversham, while I was on vacation from the USA last week. Very tidy car, and an MMOC member. The only Minor I spotted in 10 days (although granted I mostly travelled by train).

Re: Fuel gauge problem

Pleased to say that the new voltage stabiliser/regulator from Moss is installed, and now I have a working fuel gauge. Evidently the solid state stabiliser (part No. 131-555) that I had bought last year from Moss (not ESM - my bad) had quit working. The one I replaced it with (Moss part No. 115-433) ...

Re: Fuel gauge problem

Thanks - I'll try that, but I already ordered the new regulator from Moss (it's returnable if needed). I will be visiting relatives in the UK in October, so in case I need a replacement gauge, I'll know by then, can order one on eBayUK, and have it sent to my relative. So that's the plan right now. ...

Re: Fuel gauge problem

Thanks - I got 62-63 ohms when it had settled down, but it did jump around a lot as I applied gentle pressure with the probes on the gauge terminals. So good, but I'm wondering if there's a loose connection somewhere in the gauge which might also be the source of the problem (and I did use pressure ...

Re: Fuel gauge problem

Thanks Don, I connected the fuel gauge between the regulator I terminal and earth, still no response from the gauge. Checked the voltage across the gauge terminals, less than 1 volt. I'm no electrician, but should it not be the same 9.94V the regulator is sending? Perhaps this is telling me the gaug...

Re: Fuel gauge problem -again. Any ideas?

Continuing the issue I ran into last year. After all the above, I replaced the voltage stabiliser with a solid state one (-ve ground) from ESM. Gauge then worked fine, all good. That's been the case since June last year. Just recently when driving to the local garage for the annual inspection, I not...

Curious about my old Traveller

I'm wondering about my 1968 Maroon Traveller, UPG 997F. I noted on the DVLA website that the tax expired in early 2016, and the MOT in 2017. Named Maurice, he was my first car in 1976, purchased for 250 pounds. He was a godsend so I could see my girlfriend (now my wife), who lived far from a bus rou...

Re: Sealing rear of window frames

I had the same issue. The part is not available anywhere that I could find. My blue '62 saloon has the original (painted over) seals, like this. I cut a bit of the bonnet seal rubber to make new ones for my '68 Traveller, like this. The profile was about right, and it worked pretty well. IMG_5506.jp...

High level brake light

Tailgating is an official sport here in Texas, and having a 3/4 ton dually chasing your rear end is not a comfortable experience in a Morris Traveller. To be honest I think most folks just drive up close to see what that thing is that they are following. Anyway... I'm going to add a high level brake...

Re: Engine noise

Thanks all for the constructive suggestions. Yes, Monty-4, it is mostly noticeable while just starting to rev from idle, then it fades. When idling I hear it only intermittently. I'd have thought if something was fouling in the piston/conrod dept I'd hear it as a regular impact increasing with engin...

Engine noise

Perhaps someone can help me identify an unusual engine noise on my 1968 Traveller with original 1098 engine. The engine was rebuilt at a local shop here in the USA (but not a British engine specialist). I supplied all the parts they needed from ESM, and the Haynes manual. New rings, bearings, seals,...

Re: Traveller rear door hinge to pillar bolts

Mine is 5-6 mm between the doors and the pillars, and 2 mm between the doors. That looked right to me, but I did find that the smaller gap between the doors means that I have to close the left door before the right, otherwise trying to close them together results in the edges hitting. I already had ...

Re: Traveller rear door hinge to pillar bolts

So the lesson I learned from this was not to install the side windows until the rear door hinge bolt holes are drilled and the carriage bolts inserted. As to positioning, if you are starting with undrilled new wood, doors included, start by making sure you have the hinges marked for their correct po...

Re: Speedometer cable pinion oil seal retainer

Thanks Phil. However, looking at the pic on ebay, I can't see any retainer in place. It just looks like the shoulder of the seal itself in there, like mine. I've tried to remove the old seal, but perhaps I see now why there was no retainer - the seal is completely stuck in place. There isn't enough ...
