Re: Government Alerts

I'm surprised how ready people on this forum are so happy to believe these alerts are purely for our benefit & so ready to scold/mock anyone who is cynical of our government's motives.
If that makes me a Wolfie Smith, then so be it! LOL

Re: Government Alerts

I've already turned my alerts off. When was the last disaster that required the whole country to be notified? I don't trust this authoritarian government as far as I can throw it. I think the alert system is to log EVERYONE with a smart phone & have the ability to take control of that phone &...

Re: Engine & underbody steam clean.

Thanks for the advice. I found a steam cleaner in Staines (No pun intended) who charge £165.00. However now Ive discovered I'm not alone in being covered in sticky oily grease every time I venture underneath, I think I'll leave well alone. Maybe the previous owner did deliberately coat the underside...

Re: 'Smart' motorways

beware of anything with the word "Smart" on it. The reality is smart=snoop, ie collecting information & using new & novel methods of extracting money from you, that the "Provider" can implement at the time of their choice. As for smart motorways, which are clearly extreme...

Engine & underbody steam clean.

My 1967 Moggie convertible is very oily & greasy underneath. There is a leak of about a drop a day, but I think the oil underneath has been there for a long time. Does anyone know of an engine & underbody steam cleaning service in the Surrey area?

Re: AF Bolt conundrum

Thanks for the information. Just one thing, is the length of the bolt measured from the top of the bolt cap to the end of the thread or just the thread? The length of my thread is 1" & I saw on the link you sent, they do a 1¼" bolt, if this is the length of the thread, it would probabl...

AF Bolt conundrum

I have a 1967 Minor Convertible. It has the old seat belts in it which I don't mind, however I want to add in the rear an extra modern seat belt receiver so I can attach my dogs restraint to it. The current bolt is too short its an inch long, so I need to find a 1.5" one.The bolt has a S symbol...

Re: Rough idling on 1967 Minor

It could be fuel related (fuel starvation). I have just had a similar issue with my fuel pump. Is it a points type fuel pump? They don’t like sitting around. Contacts get an oxide film. Your theory would explain why in spite of a massive 60Ah battery being fitted, the Moggie took ages to start in s...

svenedin wrote: Wed Dec 28, 2022 7:47 pm Sticky float valve could also explain rough idle and sounds like it’s going to cut out. Doesn’t explain the over-revving which sounds like a separate issue.
I think the float valve sticking sounds plausible.

Re: Rough idling on 1967 Minor

That sounds like a sticky accelerator cable or throttle linkage....... Yes it does sound like that, but it wasn't. Well, I'm sure you would have noticed, but is the throttle return spring present/damaged/fitted correctly? The mystery is up till the car was placed in a dry garage, the engine ticked ...

Re: Rough idling on 1967 Minor

Thanks for all the hints as to what might be the problem. I have gone through everything as suggested & all seems in order. The one thing I did notice was the breather pipe from the engine to the carb was very hard & I was able to just pull it off at the carb end, the pipe was so distorted I...

Rough idling on 1967 Minor

I had my Moggie laid up for a month because of the weather & I went to start it today (With its new 60 AH battery & eventually it started but sounded very rough. I let it warm up, but the idle is still rough & it constantly wants to die. The last time I drove it, the car ran like clockwo...

Re: Warming up a Moggie in icy weather.

To "let it warm up for 5 minute or so" before driving off is considered bad practice. Just get the engine started on as much choke as it needs and drive off, you can progressively push the choke control in over the next few minutes. I'm not sure about starting a 54 year old car in -3C wit...

Re: Warming up a Moggie in icy weather.

I'm the same with the choke, always wanting to push it in as fast as possible. My garage is also separate from the house. Maybe when the car is undriven for days & left in sub zero temperatures, on starting & running, the engine itself gets hot quickly but the carburettor & other ancillar...

Warming up a Moggie in icy weather.

I haven't owned a Moggie for 50 years. I have had my latest one since Summer, it is stored in a dry garage, not warm. The car has been sitting unused for about 10 days, the average temp about -2. Today I put in a new battery, a nice 60Ah which spun the motor nicely although it took a little longer t...
