Re: Better than nothing rust treatment?

Great to see the car out Stephen, you'll be pleased to get out and get a few miles on it after all the hard work. No doubt a number of small jobs and tweaks still to do but it's looking fantastic.

I'm not even sure that's worth £18.99 ! It says made in Sheffield, not convinced by that unless, there is also a Sheffield in China !

Rocco, this may be of some help http://govminors.mmoc.org.uk/images/Rec ... cklist.png

Possibly worth contacting the ex government minor register as they should be able to confirm the provenance of the car.

Re: Better than nothing rust treatment?

Your timings are pretty good though Stephen, the car should be ready for the road just as the weather improves. Working on the car in the cold of winter isn't great but I'm sure running the engine in during a warm sunny spring will make it all worthwhile.

Re: 1954 Morris Minor SMOKE BLUE RARE COLOUR -- ???

Yes, maroon carpets and trim was the only option for smoke blue cars. Interesting colour choice, maybe that's what ended the run of smoke blue cars ? In my opinion, a nicer colour than sandy beige which replaced smoke blue.

Re: MM & early SERIES 2 GLOVEBOX LID CLOCK

Hi Mike, the differences between standard and deluxe seemed to vary with the series of car. The presence of over riders was certainly one thing but for example with s2 travellers, standard cars had a rubber floor mat whereas deluxe cars had carpets ! In later s3 cars, the differences included vinyl ...

Re: Upholstery

There are lots of cars out there with good interiors but terminal bodies. A second hand interior can be cleaned up and repaired, new seat straps fitted and frames painted for low costs. There's a huge volume of second hand interior for sale at the national rally every year, usually for very low cost...

Re: MM & early SERIES 2 GLOVEBOX LID CLOCK

Was there even such a thing as Deluxe Series MM cars? I don't recall such a thing. Later cars, series 3 onward had standard and deluxe models but not sure there were ever deluxe MM's. Moot point I suppose and straying from the topic somewhat.

Re: MM & early SERIES 2 GLOVEBOX LID CLOCK

The clock was an optional accessory that was specified by the buyer. It was never a standard fitment.

There's a guy in Alloa called Steven Cook who would undertake this for you. He specialises in Morris Minors. I'll see if I can find his contact details if you are interested.

Re: Auctions....

As you note, the market is quite subdued anyway but at times, you can barely give pre war cars away. Even fifties and sixties cars are not reaching what they were. Buyers now want eighties and nineties cars and these are the ones making the money. I was at a classic auction last weekend and this was...

Re: Door alignment

Is it the door that's out of alignment or is it the wing that's a slightly different profile ? There's limited adjustment on the door hinges but you could alter the trailing edge of the wing possibly.

Re: Mechanic Charges of £1500, reasonable or unreasonable?

I think northern boy sums it all up rather well. Without knowing the background, it's hard to know what was discussed and agreed. In addition to the questions asked below, was the garage a classic car specialist or just a general garage ? Most garages are now at least £45 per hour, some in excess of...

Re: Rust in Wings

From memory, that part of the wing rusts from the inside out due to curved strengthened/fitting piece on the inside. Where they come together, there is a slight gap and all the water, mud and road salt from the wheel gets fired straight in to that gap - with these results. If ember reading about a M...

Re: Modern car woes-headlight bulb replacement

I'm not entirely sure it's a case of not learning but rather purposely designed to be difficult and therefore, likely to be repaired by the main dealer only. I don't manufacturers want owners repairing their vehicles. Pretty soon all repairs and servicing will have to be undertaken by the dealer.

East Kent Trim supplies should be able to supply all of those individually but not sure if they sell as one complete kit or not.

Re: Engine stopped.

Hopefully fresh fuel solves your problem. The new fuels go off very quickly. Last spring my ride on lawnmower would not start after being taken out of storage for the winter. Tried everything and eventually drained the fuel out, put fresh fuel in and it fired up straight away. The petrol in it was o...
